You ever start a series after hearing so many amazing things about the author?👀 Yep, that was me🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️

Across the Vanishing Sky was my VERY FIRST Catherine Cowles book. Seeing how popular the author is I knew it was going to be hard to get approved so I have to give a huge thanks to Bloom Books for giving me a shot🫶🏾🥰💛

One book turned into three and I’m just over here trying to move to Starlight Grove minus the mystery stuff obviously💀😂

So let’s get right into it babes🤗

🌸 BOOK ONE — Across the Vanishing Sky We have Brae + Dex….single mom and morally gray hacker. This man is grumpy only for her. And let’s not forget the la pièce de résistance…a missing person mystery and a reveal I DID NOT see coming👀🔪

🌊 BOOK TWO — Into the Fading Twilight Grabbed from KU because I was desperate. Nova’s story hurt babes and I’m not talking about eyes watering but full blown tears😭❤️‍🩹. Watching her figure out how to live again after everything she survived was raw but beautiful. Then we got the man I would happily climb like a tree even if I’m already tall babes😏. My weakness Kol got that grumpy single dad, protective but patient vibe going. And that suspense? ¡Ay, Dios mío!🤯I was investigating from my couch like I had a badge.🕵🏽‍♀️

🌙 BOOK THREE — Beneath a Midnight Moon Bloom Books came again with the surprise access on Edelweiss🤌🏾🔥🫶🏾💛. I was waiting for Aster and Maverick’s story. Childhood best friends. First loves. Enemies. Twelve years of heartbreak. A marriage of convenience.

You know what really got me with this series so far? It’s the found family.🥹 These characters have been through some absolute HELL but they keep choosing each other.😭 And every book made me feel more connected to this little corner of Starlight Grove.

Happy Friday babes!🤗 If you’re on my threads you already saw but just over here casually spending our homeschool morning at my favorite place… the Escondido Public Library

Of course I had to bring my Shameless Romantics Harlequin Books bag.

Today it was just two of my girls checking out books for the weekend and when I say BOOKSSSSSS… I mean BOOOOOKSSSSS.😂📚

They did TWO transactions and walked out with a lil over 35 books between them.🤯😂

I’m not even mad about it. This is exactly the kind of homeschool chaos I can get behind.🥹🫶🏾💛

Because I’m determined to turn my children into little book nerds just like me. I also convinced BOTH of them to make private Goodreads accounts so they can start tracking what they read.

So yeah babes… this is how our Friday homeschool morning is going.

📚 AN OVERDUE MATCH Evangeline + Tai 💕 We’ve got a quirky librarian, a tattooed hero, some funny matchmaking shenanigans and a heroine learning that her worth was never tied to her appearance. The alopecia representation and Evangeline’s journey toward self acceptance was beautiful.

📚 HEARTS IN CIRCULATION Haley + Levi 💕 GRUMPY. SUNSHINE. BOOKMOBILE.
PEN PALS. KITTENS. Need I say more babes?🐈 I loved watching Haley and Levi learn how to truly understand and care for each other especially as they navigated their individual struggles.

📚 BOOKMARKED FOR LOVE Martha + Julien 💕 We got a childhood crush, toss in the age gap, with a publishing empire, a determined children’s librarian and a curvy heroine who knows her worth. I loved Martha’s passion for protecting her library programs and the beautiful body positive representation woven throughout her story. Julien had some growing to do but watching that growth unfold alongside their chemistry made this such a satisfying way to close out the series.

Three books.
Three romances.
Three very different couples.
One thing they all have in common? BOOKS.

I loved that each story brought something different to the table.

If you’re a reader who loves libraries, closed door romance and ALL the cozy feels then this series deserves a spot on your TBR.

Okay babes…First let me thank Claire at Terrace Public Relations for sending me both the ARC and the finished copy of Death by Misadventure🫶🏾💛. I don’t know how she knew I needed a spontaneous little detour from my usual reads but apparently I did because this was such a refreshing change of pace.
‌
Set in Elizabethan England in 1585 we’re dropped into the village of Bramley where a man is found dead beneath a waterwheel… naked… and missing a VERY important piece of anatomy.🫣😂 And yes you read that correctly babes.
‌
Enter Coroner John Derrick who has to figure out exactly what happened, who this mysterious man was, and who is responsible. But while John is working through the evidence, sixteen year old maid Rebecca Laurence is quietly collecting secrets of her own.
‌
We get the investigation from John’s side while Rebecca’s chapters take us back through the events leading up to the murder. Watching those two timelines connect kept me curious about how everything was going to come together.
‌
There are secrets, suspicious characters, questionable motives and enough twists to keep you guessing. I had suspicions about where things were going but the journey there was what kept me entertained.
‌
There’s misogyny, prejudice, assumptions, and the ways women navigate a society that constantly underestimates them.
‌
It’s quirky. It’s darkly funny. It’s weird as hell. 😂 And that combination WORKED.
‌
If you’re looking for something completely different from the typical murder mystery then Death by Misadventure might be your kind of strange little adventure.
‌
A bizarre body. A suspicious village. A coroner looking for answers. A young maid who knows more than she should. Secrets everywhere. And a mystery that absolutely refuses to be normal.

Last night I read the Author’s Note and had to STOP. I called all six of my kids into the room because there was a part I needed them to hear. The author asks a question that I think deserves to be asked: “Is it that Black boys don’t read or that Black boys are just not interested in reading whatever is put in front of them?” WHEW😮‍💨

And then he talks about what happens when Black boys are constantly handed stories filled with characters who don’t look like them, don’t reflect their experiences, and don’t give them someone they can see themselves in. And then came the words that really got me…
“Black boys surely deserve stories filled with magic, wonder, and warm summer rain.”
“Black boys deserve to have their origin stories.”
“Black boys deserve to have the fullness of their power revered.”

And finally…”They need to remember that they are magic, that ‘Blackness is magic.’”
BABES.😭🫶🏾🖤

I sat there reading this and immediately thought about my own kids. Because representation in books isn’t just about seeing a face that looks like yours on a cover.
It’s about seeing yourself as the hero.
The chosen one.
The magical one.
The powerful one.
The complicated one.
The kid whose story matters enough to be written.

Two of my three boys were already friendly brotherly fighting over who gets to read the books first after Mama💀😂 I offered that we can just read them together and they basically said “Nope. I want to experience it myself.”

And you know what? I AIN’T MAD AT THAT.🥹👏🏾
Because THAT is exactly what I want. I want my boys excited to pick up a book. I want them fighting over who gets to read it first. I want them staying up wondering what happens next. I want them finding characters they can connect with. I want them seeing Black boys represented in stories where they aren’t just the sidekick, the comic relief, the best friend or the kid in the background.

I want them to see themselves as the magic.

As a homeschool mama that matters to me. I haven’t finished the first book yet and the author’s note had me calling all six of my kids into the room. That’s how you know a book is bigger than the pages.

Okay babes… it’s been a MINUTE since I’ve shown y’all what’s sitting on my NetGalley shelf!👀
