Little Luna Love

Little Luna Love I will be by your side as you prepare to welcome your baby. You will feel supported, safe, and confi Hello! I am Angela Diaz de Leon.

I am your Birth Doula, Placenta Specialist, and Babywearing Educator. I am mama to Maya and Remy and married to Israel. I am a DONA trained Birth Doula and CBWS trained Babywearing Educator. After giving birth to my daughter Maya, I felt so empowered as a woman and new mom, but overwhelmed at the same time. I had lost two pregnancies before she was born, and one after her birth also, which came wi

th it's own set of emotions as a new mama. Holding this new amazing life in my arms, made me realize the important role in guiding this little one to adulthood. There were so many books, websites, apps, and people giving advice that I felt I had to read everything to then decide what route to take as a parent. As much as I love to research and read about every topic, I found that the loudest voice was my own. It was my instinct as a parent. Even as a new mama, I felt that the relationship between my daughter and I, and eventually my son and I, always felt the most connected, warm, and sincere when I trusted my instincts. My hope is to help families trust their instincts, and feel empowered to bond with their child before, during and after birth.

While Mexico’s middle and upper classes are discovering the wonders of natural birth, traditional Indigenous midwives are actively being discouraged from providing the same services to the lower classes.

As a doula, and birth advocate, I often hear comments about how magical my work must be. It can be, but too often, I am witness to women not being heard, respected, and seen in what could/should be an empowering and transformative experience.

“The health and healing of humanity depends on us changing the way we see birth in our society.

After all, we are ALL born. If mothers feel unsafe, violated, or abused during births, their newborn babies will store those experiences in their nervous systems.

We need more midwives, especially midwives of color, caring for more birthing people in this country.

We need more women and birthing people to know what their options are around giving birth.

We need our society to provide empowering images of birth to everybody, especially young people.

We need people to know how mighty the female body is- that it can grow a life, and birth it into this world, with power and grace.

When we are empowered to have our children in this way, we will birth a new generation that understands consent, body autonomy, and true empowerment. And that’s exactly what our world needs.”

The needs to connect the dots to the oppressive way our the Wester Medical System manages birth in our society.

The fourth trimester is often overlooked for newly postpartum women. We need to ensure that we care for the whole mother just as much as the baby. In the days, weeks and months following birth we are healing physically, emotionally and at times coming back from a birth experience that has forever changes us. These recommendations are a step in the right direction, but there is still so much work to do in caring for our women.
I love that I am learning the teachings of traditional care that can help women close this gap in care. Belly binding, vaginal steaming, bone closing, womb massage, herbal baths, and listening are such powerful healing methods to share.
Take care of yourself and the women in your lives by sharing these practices. 💕✨🌱

Sweeping changes in medical practice could improve the dismal U.S. rate of maternal deaths and near-deaths, an influential doctors group says.

✨ Gathering and caring for a woman, especially postpartum, is such a strong energy to be a part of. ✨ Mothering ceremonies are such a powerful experience not only for the woman receiving, but for those of us channeling the healing, the sacred practice and holding space.
I’m thankful to do this work with strong women! Thank you, Xoxo Baby and Violets and Clementines Photography. 💕

An amazing show of support for breastfeeding and our community! So glad to be a part of this event 💪👶🏼❤️

The San Diego Breastfeeding Center, LLC along with Wonderful and Wild hosted The Big Latch On event on August 5th.

We had 113 nursing women, 121 children latched and 274 total people.

The final number for the world record of children nursing (at breast or with breastmilk in a bottle) at the same time is 17,790, with 18,036 nursing mothers and 50,383 total people attending registered Big Latch On locations. That means 14,557 other people came to show their love and support. We were truly amazed to see so many dads, moms, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, friends and non nursing children in attendance. That is truly something special.

The Big Latch On also serves as the primary fundraising event for the San Diego Breastfeeding Center Foundation.

Through our opportunity drawing, t-shirt sales and other donations you raised over $2,849.23 for the San Diego Breastfeeding Center Foundation!

We can't thank everyone enough, this is huge, and will give us the opportunity to provide the breastfeeding support our community needs.

It's interesting to see this data about when babies tend to be born. I wonder what these graphs would show if we had data from all the births before modern interventions had an impact on birth patterns.
Do you know what day of the week and time you were born?

Data visualization engineer Zan Armstrong takes a close look at human birth patterns.

It's National Infertility Awareness Week. Let's increase public awareness and educate policymakers about the need for improved access to available treatment for those of us dealing with infertility. 1 in 8 couples need us to listen to what they are experiencing and help by bringing awareness to the lack of coverage insurance companies offer.

This year’s NIAW theme is “Listen Up” and it’s important to those who are coping with infertility. We can all probably do a better job of listening to ot...
