All industries make a big shift eventually, often utilizing digitalization. For foodservice, the birth of Doordash allowed them to thrive both during and after the pandemic. Fitness had Peloton, especially as people began to crave the outdoors more than ever before. While certain experiences couldn’t be perfectly replicated--like going to a salon, restaurant, or gym--people could have convenient substitutions that kept them stimulated when they needed to stay home. Industries everywhere are seeing shifts towards:
•On-Demand - People are less likely to leave their homes if they do not absolutely need to.
•Convenience - People are less kind to inconvenience, even if said inconvenience is minor.
•Affordable Beauty - Accessibility and affordability were rare in the beauty industry previously, but they are the gold standard now (as they should be).
Overall, these transitions feel natural to the ebb and flow of life. We’re adjusting to the “new normal,” as sick as we are of that cliche. However, minor and major shifts can help salons thrive in this new world. One must not simply aim to achieve. Sustainable results are a must in business these days. You can choose to sink, or you can choose to float gracefully on a pool floaty with a margarita in hand.
