AI in games testing is an emergent concept.
While it is unlikely AI could ever fully replace human intelligence in game testing, it's important not to overlook new technologies in the discipline.
Once upon a time, game testing was performed in black box fashion, identifying defects along the way. Some of us even recorded our test sessions on VCR's! Once all parts of the game were tested, it was ready to ship.
Today's games, with nearly endless permutations and open worlds, simply cannot be tested completely and yet black box testing is still the primary method of performing QA.
Outsourced QA is a multi-billion dollar annual business, but its effectiveness tends to be limited by the sheer number of bums in seats a studio is willing to afford.
Use of technology needs to become a cornerstone of game testing. Games QA organizations need to innovate at pace with the speed of game technology, and QA service providers need to step up to fulfil that need.
The future of QA isn't in replacing humans with technology, but instead using technology to make humans more efficient and effective...
