An unforgettable afternoon at James Suckling Great Wines of the World in San Francisco.

What made it truly special was reconnecting with so many dear friends in the wine world — some friendships going back 25 years or more — and meeting new ones along the way. Moments like this remind me how small and special the wine community really is.

A special day tomorrow in San Francisco.

We’ll be pouring the wines of Livio Sassetti – Pertimali at the James Suckling Great Wines of the World.

My connection to the Sassetti family goes back more than 25 years when my friend and mentor Greg St. Clair first introduced us. Over the years we stayed close — visiting, sharing meals, and sending business back and forth.

Some relationships in wine take time… and when the moment is right, they come full circle.

Now we are proud to represent this historic Brunello estate in California.

An unforgettable day of spectacular bottles, deep conversations, and the friendships that make this industry so meaningful.

So great to reconnect with Paul Einbund and the incredibly talented Soyoung Scanlan, founder of Andante Dairy — whose cheeses carry as much precision and soul as the wines we were pouring.

The lineup was extraordinary.
The room was electric.

🎄 ’Tis the season for holiday feasts… and unforgettable wines.

From prime rib and Yorkshire pudding to Aunt Sue’s legendary Cranberry Crimson Mold, the holidays bring out the dishes we wait for all year long—some more beloved than others. 😉

And when the table is full, great wine makes every bite even better.
For a true classic, few bottles shine like a Christmas Barolo—an Italian tradition that pairs beautifully with hearty winter fare.

This year, I’m turning to one of the most historic names in Barolo: Azelia.
Five generations. Over 100 years. Organically farmed vineyards. Native yeasts. Neutral aging. Pure tradition—no shortcuts.

Their rare Azelia Barolo Riserva Bricco Voghera 2014 is something extraordinary.
Perched on a tiny, impossibly steep cru in Serralunga, the vines average 95 years old and produce tiny, concentrated berries packed with nuance. Lorenzo Scavino—Azelia’s winemaker—still works much of the vineyard himself.

Antonio Galloni called the 2014 Voghera:

⭐️ “One of the most compelling wines I have ever tasted from Azelia… flat-out stunning.” (97+)

Silky tannins. Inner perfume. Sweet red & purple fruit. Blood orange. Spice.

When it comes to Champagne, the big brands (aka Grande Marques) spend massive amounts on marketing-and guess who foots the bill? Yep, it’s you! That’s why these brands dominate 90% of Champagne sales. But here’s a tip: skip the big names and find better quality at lower prices by choosing small growers, or “récoltants.” Look for “RM” or “RC” on the back label!
Our pick? Champagne Pascal Lallement. * This rich, toasty Champagne is a true gem, and it holds its own against Bollinger Special Cuvée. Here’s the best part:
Bollinger ages 3 years, includes 50% reserve wine, and
costs around $83.
- Pascal Lallement? Aged 4-5 years,
with 65% reserve wine—and 40% less expensive!
