“I don’t remember a time when the league was so competitive,” Silver said in September 2023. “One indication being we’ve had five different teams win championships over the last five years.”

Silver has forced parity through his collective bargaining priorities, such as the 2023 CBA’s introduction of significantly harsher financial and roster-building penalties for teams that spend over a certain threshold on payroll.

The NFL is partnering with General Atlantic on a new vehicle that will dramatically accelerate the league’s investing efforts.

The plan, approved Tuesday at owners meetings in New York, would see the new venture invest in businesses on the frontline of fandom, sports, media and technology, the two sides said in a joint statement. The league’s 32 Equity and the private equity giant will both contribute funds to the endeavor, according to a source with direct knowledge of the of the plan, with outside capital also likely on the horizon.

The move could set NFL owners up for a brand new revenue stream.
