Last week we welcomed Congresswoman Erin Houchin, who represents Indiana's 9th District and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, to our Indianapolis facility.

Rep. Houchin toured our lab and met the team processing and banking bone marrow from deceased organ donors, and learned about how the process works end to end — from recovery through cryopreservation to a patient's bedside.

We're grateful for her time and her interest in the patients this work is for.

Ten years ago, co-founders Kevin Caldwell and Erik Woods set out to prove that bone marrow from organ donors could be recovered, cryopreserved, and made available to patients on demand. Today, 28 patients have received transplants with bone marrow from Ossium’s bank.

When time was running out for 14-year-old Noah Britt, speed made all the difference. He's now the first pediatric patient to be treated with a bone marrow transplant using organ donor stem cells from Ossium's bank.

After a courageous fight with acute myeloid leukemia, Noah's initial living donor bone marrow transplant failed. With his condition worsening and time running short, his care team at Riley Children's Health needed another donor, fast. They identified a suitable donor in Ossium's bank, where stem cell units are available on demand. Because the cells were ready when Noah needed them, his physicians were able to move forward in days rather than months, a critical difference that gave him another chance at life.

Bone marrow transplantation has been quietly extraordinary for decades: a procedure that rebuilds a patient's entire blood and immune system from donor-derived stem cells. But it has remained dependent on living donors, narrow collection windows, and choreography that often breaks when disease moves faster than the donor coordination.

Ossium is building the alternative: a cryopreserved bank of organ donor-derived bone marrow, processed and characterized for on-demand use.
