We were honored to produce this display for Stuart McKee for the Q***r Subjectivities in History project, now showing at These fine art prints are printed on our Cold Press Natural paper for a vibrant, high quality presentation with some texture.

The Q***r Subjectivities in History project features a series of free-standing banners that present individuals from history who can be identified as conforming to particular gay, le***an, bis*xual, or transgender identities. Shown are six of the banners as featured within the University of San Francisco’s Thacher Gallery, as part of the exhibition Wayfinders: The Art + Architecture Faculty Triennial (March 2–April 12, 2026).

In the words of the artist:
“If we consider the prevalence of individuals who possessed an intermediary s*x or gender across a variety of cultures, the variations within Western history are so numerous that they can only convince us that an underlying chauvinism has infused the public’s awareness of s*xuality in contemporary society. The Q***r Subjectivities in History project therefore seeks to “queer,” or to undermine, the notion of public education by situating overt and potentially controversial information pertaining to different global s*xualities within prominent public venues, such as the Thacher Gallery setting. In the context of the Faculty Triennial installation, the theme of “Wayfinding” will support a correction in the ways in which s*xual subjectivities can be made factual, public, and prominent.”

Meet Nick Melle — an artist whose work bridges photography, ceramics, and mixed media. His images are formally driven and rooted in a sense of place, balancing playfulness with quiet precision. In contrast, his ceramics and mixed media pieces embrace touch, texture, and material presence — a conversation between the visual and the tactile.

Alongside his own art, Nick is part of our team here at Hanson Digital, where he brings his expertise in fine art scanning, film scanning, and printmaking to help other artists realize their creative vision.

We’re proud to have Nick’s eye and craft in the studio — and to feature his work as part of ArtSpan’s SF Open Studios coming up October 11–12.

Silver Nights

We were honored to work with artist (Dean Mermell) on the metal prints for his first solo exhibition, Silver Nights, at Enso Gallery in Half Moon Bay.

The closing reception last night was a beautiful celebration of Dean’s vision, and seeing the finished installation come together was a proud moment for us. His striking night shots in the desert came alive on metal—radiant, dimensional, and unforgettable.

We feel lucky to have supported such a talented artist at this milestone in his career.

Congratulations, Dean!

Meet Malcolm Ryder , an Oakland-based fine art and commercial photographer whose work explores the cityscape and spirit of Oakland.

Through his ongoing Oaktown Pictures project, Malcolm captures what he calls the “vernacular creativity” of Oaklanders - the resilience, self-expression, and unconventional beauty of a community defining itself on its own terms.

Come see Malcolm’s work in person during ArtSpan’s SF Open Studios

The ethereal artwork of Jacqueline Walters ()
draws us into the kaleidoscopic world of . Lumen printing is an alternative printing technique where objects are placed on to expired paper and then exposed to sunlight. Each brand of paper reacts differently, revealing a unique array of colors and creating an illuminated effect around the subject.

Learning Mandarin and The Language of Lumens, bloomed from Jacqueline’s exploration of the similarities
between written language and learning a new form of . Inspired by the elegance of Mandarin Chinese—a language she was learning at the time—she developed her own visual language using biological materials and thoughtful .

Jacqueline has always gravitated toward low-tech methods, such as plastic cameras, pinholes, and zone plates. Lumen printing allowed her to continue this approach effortlessly while also deepening her exploration of color photography.
——
We really enjoy seeing the variety of work that new clients bring to our studio! It was a delight to be able to collaborate with Jacqueline on this project, and to ensure that the pieces radiate the same elegant
quality as the original prints.

Using her original lumen prints as a guide, we adjusted the color to match the look of the prints. We then used a white base with a matte finish for the , which allows for a non-reflective, elevated look
while still retaining deep blacks and an excellent range of colors.

Additionally, we framed a variety of sizes ranging from 8x10 - 20x25 with a few 8x10’s containing custom pedestal mounts in the back made of multi-ply plywood.

Whether you’re new or a returning client, you can always expect us to assist you in figuring out how to present your piece in the best way possible. Our expertise in materials and finishing techniques allows us
to tailor each project to the artist’s unique vision.
