Birth Focused Doulas

Birth Focused Doulas Doula and Photography services from bump to baby in and around San Francisco, California

CARE
Right from the outset, both of us knew we wanted to work together with another doula. Doula work requires that we are fully present, emotionally, physically and mentally, and can easily take its toll. Working together allows us to be fresh and ready, no matter how your birth goes. It is also inline with our birth philosophy, reflecting the spirit of community building and allowing self care t

o fully permeate our work. COMFORT
We draw from our life experience as well as extensive trainings to help our Mamas through labor. Every labor calls for different tools but here are some of modalities we may employ: Cranial Sacral Therapy, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Acupressure, Massage, position changes, meditation and affirmations. COMMUNITY
From the moment you confirm us as your Doulas we can help you navigate your way through your pregnancy. Whether you hire us early on or close to your due date we are here for informational support and can provide excellent resources and referrals to help you enjoy your pregnancy and get your body, mind and soul ready for birth and beyond.

Beautiful words and a beautiful image. Strength+Vulnerability

Birth: a beautiful mingling of vulnerability and strength. We hold these seemingly distant states together in our bodies and our souls.

Really fun to read about a Dude-la. Laura and I often joke that our husband's are on their way to becoming Doulas just by being exposed to so much birth culture. This guy has really run with it.

Last night's second prenatal with a wonderful couple who calls this their home. Pretty special spot! I know I can't get attached to anything but can we please do some laboring on this deck? At sunset or sunrise perhaps?

" I can understand how directed, strong pushing could bruise a cervix. But I don’t see how a woman could damage herself by following her urges. In many ways the argument regarding pushing, or not is pointless because once the Ferguson reflex takes over it is beyond anyone’s control. You either let it happen, or start commanding the women to do something she is unable to do ie. stop pushing."

This week we witnessed such a beautiful birth. The kind that reminds you how strong women are, and how an awesome partner and some rockin' doulas, can make a woman feel safe enough to find that power inside herself. They got to the hospital on Wednesday morning, started an induction on Thursday morning, and had a baby on SATURDAY morning. And she did it all without an epidural. Watching her be so present to each moment, so loving to all those around her, and so good at receiving love in return, was inspiring beyond belief.

"This is the problem with overdue babies: there is very little evidence because so few women allow their pregnancies to go past 42 weeks. As US midwife Gail Hart points out, the most-cited statistic about post-dates babies (that their risk of stillbirth "doubles after 42 weeks") comes from a 1958 study – a time when mortality rates were 10 times what they are now. Also, as Hart argues, induction is hardly risk-free: it carries higher rates of caesarean section, uterine rupture, foetal distress and maternal haemorrhage."

The idea that pregnancy becomes dangerous after 42 weeks is out of date, says Viv Groskop, whose own third baby was nearly three weeks late
