🔷 As the year ends, I find myself looking back with a heart overflowing with gratitude and appreciation! 2023 unfolded as a chapter of personal growth in life, work, deep connections, and the profound warmth of friendships, both old and new.

❤️ One of the proudest moments that has defined this year is the privilege of contributing to something greater than myself -- the honor of being a part of the compassionate, servant leadership of the Pacific Territory and the Northern California Advisory Council Board at ALSAC, the fundraising arm of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

🔷 The very essence of St. Jude's lifesaving mission has been a guiding light, especially through St. Jude Global. Their lifesaving mission has been a beacon of hope. In a world where 4 out of 5 children in the U.S. survive cancer, only 1 out of 5 in developing countries do. Together, we are making a difference.

🙏 Today, I extend my deepest gratitude to the remarkable individuals -- the researchers, doctors, and staff at St. Jude who tirelessly push the boundaries of science to save children's lives worldwide.

We live on an imbalanced planet. The most pressing global challenge of our time is the health of our planet. Symptoms like toxic air, floods, and wildfires are fundamental to our lives where we live, work, and play. Not every policy idea is suited for all, nor should every piece of it be scrapped. Many talk BIG, but unfortunately are often being used as political PR tactics and have yet to put real money behind those efforts or struggle to match their words with action.

We rely on governments and organizations to deal with the magnitude and complexity of Sustainable Development: G20, Paris Agreement, UN Climate Change COP, etc. At the same time, Business and Finance engage in “Impact Investing” strategies to generate bottom-line.

BUT no public or private party alone can systematically generate great solutions and returns. You must allow each others’ powers into your partnership. When you share power, you create something much larger than either of you could otherwise do. I believe that partnerships, collaborations, closer cooperation with the private sector, public policy, civil society, and individuals are vital to achieving the same goal. All must play specific roles to shape a better future where the planet is healed and the world is transformed.

🔷LOVE OR FEAR
Would you choose to accept FEAR in your FUTURE living with Catastrophic Weather, Hazardous Air, Floods, Wildfires, Droughts, where there will be problems like Food and Water Insecurity, Marine Ecosystem Collapse, Wildlife Extinction, more people dying, etc.

As part of the compassionate, servant leadership of the Northern California Advisory Council Board, ALSAC, the fundraising arm of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, I was thrilled to attend the momentous 60th Anniversary Gala Celebration of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, themed “Miracles on the Bay,” held at San Francisco City Hall.

I cherish that Danny Thomas opened the doors of St. Jude 60 years ago during segregation in the south with the vision of creating the first integrated children’s hospital where no children are denied treatment for their race, religion, or the family's ability to pay. And still today, families NEVER receive a single bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food.

Today, we celebrate Danny's legacy with gratitude and appreciation. There are no words to express my gratitude for the researchers, doctors, and staff who continue to push the boundaries of science to save children's lives around the globe -- St. Jude’s lifesaving mission!

Today, we honor the children -- St. Jude's patient kids -- past, present, and future.

Today, we thank our loyal supporters for making our mission possible. Because of people like you, St. Jude is able to extend its lifesaving mission to help more children around the world.

It takes a village to raise a child, let alone a child with cancer. The #1 factor in whether a child will survive cancer is WHERE THEY LIVE. In the U.S., 4 out of 5 children survive cancer. But in developing countries, only 1 out of 5 will be cured. These kids were given a death sentence, which is why St. Jude is such a gift to the WORLD. St. Jude is the #1 funder of kids with cancer and shares its knowledge with the world for FREE.

Highlights from St. Jude's global efforts:

🔷1,000 children were evacuated from Ukraine to continue their treatment after the war began.

🔷St. Jude is partnering with the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise the worldwide survival rate for the six most common forms of pediatric cancer from 20% today to 60% by 2030.

🔷The Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines, the first of its kind, will provide an uninterrupted supply of childhood cancer medicines to low- and middle-income countries for FREE, impacting ~120,000 children between 2022 and 2027.

WE WON'T STOP until NO children die from cancer. We can only do this together. I’m looking forward to our continued efforts to fulfill Danny’s vision that no child should die in the dawn of life. I would like to INVITE you to join us in moving the needle even further.

I Believe in the Power of “Doing Well by Doing Good”

What I care about is an investment that leaves a legacy for the community to share and an impact that lasts in our absence.

There are so many issues, and we can't solve all of the world’s problems. But the cost of doing nothing and staying quiet is far worse. We can look at what value we can offer the community through our capacity and resources. I see this as a collective action in which we take part that aligns with our businesses. As a voice in the global investment community, I approach business relationships with a sense of purpose. With every investment opportunity, I ask myself, WHAT IMPACT DOES IT MAKE ON THE COMMUNITY?

🔷ECONOMIC VALUE meets SOCIAL VALUE: I believe Innovation, Social, and Environmental Impact, with the right Financial components that offer a financial return, can make us successful and do good in the world at the same time--where Sustainable Investment, Sustainable Development, Sustainable Growth meet Sustainable Profit.

🔷PURPOSE meets PROFITS: Finding that successful bottom line does not have to conflict with supporting social responsibility -- they are connected to one another. The more that profit and social responsibility are aligned, the more companies have an interest in creating social value.

🔷At the heart of my entrepreneurship, there is a set of values that I believe in and have been carrying throughout my journey. I treat them with respect. They give me a clear vision of what does and does not offer a better solution and create value. They help me make decisions of impact versus money.

🔷At the heart of my investment approach, “Doing Well by Doing Good” has become a catalyst for the growth of my company. I see my role in the community and my company as very much interconnected. I look for companies that have social aspirations, commercial benchmarks, and a people-centered corporate strategy.
