Designers should educate themselves on regulations that are necessary to make products that are safe and traceable to its raw materials and manufacturing sources. raw material sources and manufacturers should only offer compliant products to the marketplace. Consumers should educate themselves on what makes a product safe to lives and environment. Support organizations that provide transparency.

The ACCC has announced the actions it will take in response to a CHOICE super complaint that exposed the shocking scale of unsafe products being sold online. The clothing industry is providing transparency to the origins of its raw materials and manufacturing facilities by providing digital products passports in every product intended for sale. This is of benefit to consumers who want to make sure that the clothes they wear are made by sources that take into account product safety and social responsibility requirements. I hope the U.S. can adopt the same practice.

I could not keep away from reviewing clothing labels while on vacation in Spain. What would have been better than an on-site market review? All garments had the required information on fiber content, country of origin, care instructions, manufacturer info and other identifiers like the PO number to assure traceability of the garment to its source. All information were translated to the language of the country the product would be available for sale. In addition to these, I found recycling instructions! Europe certainly is ahead of the U.S. in protecting the environment.

The ACCC has raised the bar for online marketplaces to protect consumers from unsafe products bought online, strengthening the Australian Product Safety Pledge in collaboration with major online marketplaces.

By signing up to the pledge, online marketplaces agree to proactively strengthen their product safety policies and initiatives in a framework where expectations are public and results are measurable.

The U.S. is taking a long a weekend off to celebrate Memorial Day. It’s a time to remember our fallen soldiers who have given their lives to fight for our country. It’s also the unofficial start of summer season and the end of a school year.

It feels great to be outdoors and in pools and beaches during warm weather months. Start providing children with swimming lessons as soon as they are able to float. It’s a life saving skill.

All small, graspable portions of a toy intended for children 3 years and younger should not detach when pulled with a force of 15 lbs held for 10 seconds. The zipper pull that opens the zipper to allow access to the heatable heart shaped pouch can detach when pulled below the minimum force required to test its strength. Furthermore, the heart with the heated beads should not present a burn hazard. It seems the recall doesn’t mention this precaution which makes one to assume that the bear has instructions for heating up the heart. The heart should also have an inner pouch that is fully sewn shut to fully contain the beads inside, making it unlikely to release the beads that a child might swallow.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Heartwarming Hugs Bear and return it to a local Build-A-Bear Workshop store to receive a refund in the form of original payment or a gift card for the original purchase price redeemable toward any available Make-Your-Own furry friend and any other...
