Flowers on the Inside / Flores Adentro lifts up a story of compassion against the cruelty we're witness to. Duende is proud of our work with The Center for Cultural Power, Casa Arcoíris, and Forward Together building the website for Flowers on the Inside.
Create your own message of hope and solidarity for migrant folks in detention! Flowers on the Inside is a partnership between The Center for Cultural Power (Formerly CultureStrike), Casa Arcoiris Albergue LGBTI, and Forward Together to support migrant folks in detention camps and let them know they are not alone. This project is imagined by undocumented artists, featuring undocumented artists, that provides a counter narrative to the cruel images our communities are bombarded with in the media.
Artist Karla Rosas is a self-taught visual artist and ‘undocumented immigrant’ originally from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Karla grew up in the Gulf South and currently lives in New Orleans. Karla is a storyteller first and foremost. In creating and sharing her art for Flowers On The Inside, she says, “This piece is a reminder that you are beautiful and that you are not alone. Like the flowers, you are beautiful, of this land, and capable of blooming over and over again. When I say I am waiting for your liberation, I mean that I am thinking of you and reaching towards you and fighting alongside you because I believe that one day we will both be free.”
