This Labor Day, we’re thinking about what it really means to do great work.

For a long time, leadership culture celebrated the person who stayed the latest, answered every email, carried the most responsibility, and somehow kept everything moving.

But working harder isn't always the same as creating more impact.

Some of the best leaders we've worked with have learned a different lesson: Your job isn't to carry everything.

It's to build an environment where great people can do great work.

That means trusting your team, delegating meaningful ownership, creating systems that reduce unnecessary work, using technology and AI thoughtfully, and protecting the time and energy people need to think, create, connect, and contribute at their highest level.

Today, we celebrate the people whose work keeps organizations moving: from the leaders setting direction to the teams, Executive Assistants, operators, and countless others who turn that direction into reality.

Great companies are never built by one person.

They're built by people working together, contributing what they do best.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at Mindmaven.

Delegation sounds simple in theory but it looks different when you actually try to do it.

What do you hand off?

How much context is enough?

When should your EA make the decision, and when should they bring it back to you?

How do you delegate without sacrificing quality, communication, or relationships?

As Nadia Eldeib, Founder of Nod Labs http://Inc., points out in her review of Radical Delegation, “the devil is often in the details.”

And those details are exactly where great delegation is built.

Radical Delegation takes the philosophy of “do less and delegate more” and turns it into practical systems leaders can actually use to:

✅ Build a stronger partnership with a remote EA
✅ Create clearer delegation and communication practices
✅ Increase productivity without simply working faster
✅ Free up time for higher-value work
✅ Invest more intentionally in the relationships that matter

Because great delegation isn't simply about getting work off your plate.

Done well, it gives you more capacity to communicate thoughtfully, build deeper connections, and focus your energy where you create the greatest value.

As Nadia put it, the goal is to turn a thoughtful philosophy into actionable practice.

Scaling shouldn’t cost you your health, your relationships, or your joy in the work.

But for too many founders, that’s exactly what happens.

The company grows, the demands multiply, the systems don’t keep up, and slowly, the things that mattered most (family, health, the relationships that sustain you), get quietly deprioritized in favor of the urgent.

This is the problem Radical Delegation is written to solve.

Leverage gives you your time back.
Intent gives you your focus back.
Fellowship gives you your relationships back.

Together, they give you the framework to lead at your highest level: sustainably, and without sacrifice.

The ROI on relationship investment is impossible to calculate, and impossible to ignore.

Every meaningful opportunity I’ve seen come a founder’s way, (the key hire, the game-changing intro, the investor who believed before anyone else did), came through a relationship that was built before it was needed.

Not through a cold email nor through a pitch deck but through a genuine, consistent care over time and many leaders struggle to maintain this care when they’re stretched thin.

That’s why we wrote Radical Delegation.

We want to give you the systems that make relationship investment consistent, even when life gets full.

What would happen if your EA went on leave tomorrow?

For most executives, the options have traditionally been limited:

Ask someone internally to absorb the work or bring in temporary support that may take weeks to understand how you operate.

AI has created a third option.

In this article, Patrick explores an AI-augmented coverage model that separates an EA’s responsibilities into two categories:
- Volume work, such as scheduling, inbox triage, meeting briefs, and summaries.

- Judgment work, such as understanding relationships, recognizing nuance, and knowing what truly deserves the executive’s attention.

AI can increasingly carry the first category so a capable EA can remain focused on the second.

Inside, you’ll learn:

✅ Why EA transitions reveal weaknesses in an executive operating system
✅ Three practical workflows to establish before coverage is needed
✅ How AI can support inbox triage, meeting preparation, and follow-through
✅ Why the EA role becomes more strategic as repetitive processing disappears

The goal is not to replace human support.

It is to let human judgment operate at its highest level.

Hard work got you here.

Systems will take you further.

"The most successful leaders aren’t the ones who work the hardest. They’re the ones who’ve built the best systems." — Patrick Ewers, Radical Delegation

This is the shift we see in every founder who makes the leap from good to extraordinary.

They stop competing on hours, trying to outwork the problem, and start building the infrastructure that makes their time, their team, and their ideas more powerful.

- An EM who anticipates their needs
- a whitespace system that protects their deepest thinking
- a delegation framework that multiplies their output without requiring constant oversight
- and increasingly, AI tools that handle the repetitive, the reactive, and the time-consuming, so leaders can focus on the irreplaceable.

This is what Radical Delegation is built to create.

Executive presence isn't built when you walk into the room.

It's built in the hours before.

The way you manage your time, the systems you rely on, the decisions you don't have to carry, and the space you've created to think before you're expected to lead.

In our latest article, we challenge one of the biggest myths in leadership: that executive presence is mostly about confidence and communication.

Instead, we explore why clarity, operational design, strong Executive Assistant partnerships, and thoughtful use of AI are what allow leaders to show up calm, focused, and intentional.

Because when your systems work well, people don't notice the systems.
They notice the leader.

Every task you hold onto that someone else could do is a vote against your highest-value work.

"Every hour you spend doing something your EM could handle is an hour you’re not spending on the things only you can do." — Patrick Ewers, Radical Delegation

Think about what you did yesterday.

How much of it required your specific expertise, your relationships, your vision? And how much was inbox management, meeting prep, scheduling, follow-up, research — things that a trained EM could have handled while you were focused on the work that actually moves the needle?

This isn’t about being lazy. It’s about being honest with yourself about where your highest leverage is.

AI tools have expanded this equation further than ever: your EM, paired with the right AI workflows, can now handle more of your operational load than at any point in history — giving you back hours you didn’t think were recoverable.

What would happen if you stopped following up?

Would commitments still get closed, overdue items still get chased, someone know when a decision genuinely needed your attention, or would the system slowly stop working?

A CEO we work with recently told us: “I don’t want to be inside my own task system.”

He didn’t want more dashboards or better visibility, he wanted the opposite.

He wanted the machinery of accountability to run without him.

In our latest newsletter, we share how we help him build a CEO OS where his EA operates the system, commitments are captured from meetings, overdue items are followed up on, and the CEO gets involved only when his judgment is genuinely needed.

Inside, we explore:

✅ Why many accountability systems are actually executives holding everything together
✅ The difference between delegating tasks and delegating entire systems
✅ How an EA can become the operator of follow-through around the executive
✅ Why writing commitments as questions makes them easier to close
✅ A simple exercise to identify where you’re still unnecessarily inside the accountability loop

The main idea isn’t to give leaders visibility into everything but to build systems that know when leaders need visibility at all.

Most leaders don't struggle because they don't believe in delegation.

They struggle because they were never taught how to delegate in a way that creates lasting leverage.

Delegation isn't simply about handing work to someone else.

It's about building the systems, clarity, and trust that allow your team to thrive without everything flowing back to you.

That's why this feedback from Erica Mansfield, Executive Assistant at Gainsight, is so meaningful.

Radical Delegation was written to move delegation beyond theory and into practice, with frameworks leaders can implement immediately to:

✅ Build stronger Executive Assistant partnerships
✅ Reduce decision fatigue
✅ Create systems that scale with your business
✅ Reclaim time for strategy, relationships, and leadership

Because the best leaders don't just delegate tasks.

They build organizations that don't depend on them for every decision.
