Why are minorities and people of color not buying many electric vehicles in California? Or anywhere else?
🌱TrendElectric greets you!
And as always, we want to talk about trends that lead us all into a cleaner, brighter, “greener” energy efficient future.
With the extensive diversity in America, and being a nation of personal transportation, it would be a mistake relying on middle class white people to set the trend.
In order to slow down and reverse climate change we need everyone to invest in EV’s.
Clearly there are challenges.
Income disparity across communities, lack of education in the marketplace for high tech consumer products, and access to venders that sell electric vehicles,
all affect the ability of a Black, Latino, or Asian American to choose electric.
With so many new and lower
priced EV’s coming out, and with the growing pre-owned fleet as current EV owners upgrade to newer models, electric cars can be available to everyone.
We want to see new ad campaigns in urban communities aimed at minority consumers that encourage “green” lifestyles, like home insulating, “green” systems for improved small business efficiency, and about adopting electric cars. With outreach and education, municipalities and towns can impart “green” messages and bring these important buyers into the EV revolution.

In California, Latinos and African-Americans simply are not buying electric cars. It’s time for some new marketing.
