Following a successful 8-city screening tour attended by nearly 5,000 people, VABA invites our community, families, friends, entrepreneurs, and business leaders to experience this powerful documentary on the big screen at four upcoming Bay Area screenings.

The King of Trash tells the remarkable true story of a refugee family that survived a dangerous escape by sea, arrived in America with almost nothing, and rebuilt their lives through hard work, sacrifice, resilience, and determination.

More than an immigrant story, it is a story about family, second chances, entrepreneurship, and the pursuit of the American Dream.

Some stories deserve to be remembered. Some moments deserve to become part of history.

Looking back at our Washington, D.C. screening of The King of Trash, we're reminded why this evening meant so much. Hosting the documentary at the historic U.S. Navy Memorial, a place that honors service, sacrifice, and the stories that shaped our nation, made this stop especially meaningful.

We were deeply honored to receive the support of the Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, who commended the film for capturing the resilience, determination, and contributions of the Asian immigrant community. Their recognition affirmed that this documentary is more than one family's journey, it reflects the spirit of generations who came to America with hope and helped build stronger communities.

One of the evening's most memorable moments came from Vice Admiral John Nowell Jr. (Ret.), President & CEO of the U.S. Navy Memorial. Reflecting on his years serving in the Navy and supporting refugees, he shared a simple but powerful reminder: “our legacy is measured not by what we earn, but by what we give back.”

As the credits rolled, many guests remained in their seats. Some quietly wiped away tears. Others stayed to share their own family stories. In those moments, The King of Trash became a reflection of countless immigrant journeys.

Orlando was hot... and so was the energy inside the theater. 🔥

With 200+ RSVPs and more than 150 guests joining us, The King of Trash brought together entrepreneurs, professionals, families, and community leaders for an unforgettable afternoon.

Guests stayed for nearly an hour for the Q&A, sharing their thoughts, asking questions, and reflecting on the resilience, hope, and the American Dream behind the story.

New business relationships were formed, meaningful conversations continued long after the screening, and valuable business and community connections began to take shape. That's exactly what this documentary is about bringing people together through a story that inspires.

A meaningful milestone for VABA in Washington, D.C.

For the first time, VABA hosted an Executive Networking Lunch Event in our nation's capital, bringing together business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and public sector representatives for thoughtful discussions on business, investment, innovation, and cross-border opportunities.

What began as a strong business network on the West Coast continues to expand nationally. This gathering marked an important step in strengthening relationships between leaders on the East Coast and VABA's growing network across the United States and Asia.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed their perspectives, experiences, and ideas. Meaningful partnerships often begin with a simple conversation, and the connections made in this room reflect the very mission of VABA.

As we continue to grow, we remain committed to connecting business to business, business to investors, and business to government, creating opportunities that drive long-term impact for our communities and future generations.

The credits rolled, but nobody wanted to leave. ❤️

Orlando welcomed *The King of Trash* with more than 200 RSVPs and over 150 attendees, bringing together business leaders, community leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, families, and friends for an unforgettable afternoon.

What touched us most wasn't the turnout; it was what happened after the film ended.

Guests remained in the auditorium for nearly an hour, sharing personal stories, asking thoughtful questions, and reflecting on the themes of resilience, sacrifice, family, entrepreneurship, and the American Dream. For many, this wasn't just a documentary. It was a story that felt deeply personal.

A special thank you to our community partners, the French American Business Council of Orlando (FABCO) and the Vietnamese National Association, for helping bring people together around this meaningful event.

The King of Trash came to Washington, D.C. with a full house, a standing-room crowd, and one powerful story!

With more than 440 RSVPs and 250 attendees, the historic U.S. Navy Memorial was filled with business leaders, community leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, elected officials, and families from across the region.

What made the evening even more special was seeing guests travel from different cities and states to be part of this experience. Some drove for hours, while others flew in from across the country, all gathering around a story that speaks to the American Dream, resilience, entrepreneurship, family, and community.
