🤔 THINKING ABOUT JOINING ITEX? LET’S CLEAR THINGS UP!
Curious about ITEX but not sure how it works? We’ve got answers!
Whether you’re a small business owner, or established company, here are FAQs to help you discover how ITEX can open doors to new business opportunities.
1. What is ITEX?
ITEX is a business-to-business trade exchange that helps businesses buy and sell products and services using ITEX Dollars alongside traditional business transactions.
2. How does ITEX work?
You offer your products or services to other ITEX members and earn ITEX Dollars. You can then use those ITEX Dollars to purchase products and services from other participating members.
3. What are ITEX Dollars?
ITEX Dollars are the trading currency used within the ITEX network. They help members exchange goods and services without needing to pay the entire purchase amount in cash.
4. Is ITEX a barter system?
Yes, but with a twist! You don’t need to trade directly with the same business. Earn ITEX Dollars from one member and spend them with another.
5. Who can join ITEX?
Businesses across various industries may qualify, including retailers, restaurants, contractors, professional service providers, wellness businesses, and many others. Membership depends on the business and market.
6. Do I need to own a large business to join?
Not necessarily! Small businesses and independent service providers can also explore membership, provided their business meets the requirements.
7. How much does it cost to join ITEX?
Membership fees and transaction fees may apply. Contact your local ITEX Trade Director for the current rates and membership details.
8. Do I need to accept every trade request?
No. You can decide which products, services, and transactions make sense for your business, subject to ITEX membership policies.
9. How do I earn ITEX Dollars?
You earn ITEX Dollars when other members purchase your products or services.
10. What can I buy with ITEX Dollars?
Depending on availability in your market, you may find advertising, restaurants, professional services, home and business services, retail products, and more.
11. Can I use ITEX Dollars to pay my regular business expenses?
You may be able to cover certain expenses through participating members. Availability depends on what businesses in your market offer.
12. Will ITEX guarantee me new customers or sales?
No exchange can guarantee sales. Your results depend on your offerings, demand, participation, and how actively you engage with other members.
13. What if nobody buys from my business?
Building trade activity takes time. Your Trade Director can help you explore ways to promote your offerings and connect with potential buyers within the network.
14. Do I have to spend my ITEX Dollars with the business that bought from me?
No! That’s one of the advantages. You can earn from one member and spend with another member.
15. Can I sell excess inventory or unused business capacity?
Absolutely! Products sitting on your shelves or available appointment slots and service capacity may create trade opportunities, depending on demand.
16. Can service-based businesses join?
Yes! Businesses offering professional, creative, maintenance, marketing, wellness, and other services may be suitable for the exchange.
17. Can I offer only selected products or services?
You can discuss which offerings are appropriate for trade with your Trade Director. You don’t necessarily have to make your entire inventory or service list available.
18. Are ITEX Dollars the same as cash?
No. ITEX Dollars are used within the exchange and generally are not redeemable for cash. Their value to your business comes from using them for purchases you would otherwise make.
19. Are there transaction fees?
Transaction fees may apply to purchases and sales. Ask your local ITEX office to explain the current fee structure before joining.
20. Do I still need cash for my business?
Yes. ITEX can help offset eligible expenses, but it does not replace cash for expenses that cannot be paid through the exchange, such as certain taxes, payroll, rent, or suppliers outside the network.
21. Are there tax implications when trading through ITEX?
Yes, barter transactions may have tax and reporting implications. Consult your accountant or tax professional about the rules applicable to your business.
22. How do I keep track of my ITEX Dollars?
Members can review their trade account activity through the tools and account information provided by ITEX. ITEX also has an app available for Apple and Android devices, making it easier to access your account on the go. Ask your Trade Director how to access your account and statements.
23. How do I find businesses to trade with?
You can explore participating businesses and available offerings through the resources provided by your local ITEX market and Trade Director. ITEX also has its own marketplace and directory where members can discover trading opportunities within the network.
24. Can I join if I already have plenty of customers?
Definitely worth exploring! ITEX can be another way to reach potential customers, attract new business, and put available inventory or capacity to work.
25. How do I get started?
Contact your local ITEX Trade Director. They can discuss your business, explain membership requirements and fees, and help you determine whether ITEX is a good fit.
