Cacao beans were once used as currency by the Maya and Aztecs in many areas of the Americas. In other words, chocolate was literally money! 💰

In 1878, Dayton, Ohio saloon owner James Ritty became concerned about money disappearing from his business. After seeing a device that counted the revolutions of a ship’s propeller, he got the idea to create a machine that could keep track of sales.

The cash register was born. 🧾

A business problem led to an invention that changed retail forever.
