Liat Salomon, Birth Doula

Liat Salomon, Birth Doula I provide doula services. I support women (and their partners) during their wondrous journey of pregnancy and birth.

It’s been soooo long since I posted anything here!
So how have you been doing? 🙂

My husband reminded my that I never shared that I have a new blog, so there it is!

The idea to write one (even though there are tons of articles and all sorts of information online) came after I realized how much misinformation was out there, and I found myself correcting so much of the information my clients were reading. I thought it would be easier to just write some info for them - and for anyone else 🙂

I hope to be good about adding more and more info over time, but for now please enjoy, share and let know what you think 🙏🏻

I hope you all have a wonderful new year, full of good news and great laughter! ❤️

I have lots and lots of photos like this one on my phone💚💛
Sometimes it’s my hand that she’s holding, some of the photos were taken after the birth and include the baby’s hand - and they all tell a great story of partnership, support and love.

Here’s to wonderful, healthy and happy births!

I watched her move and breath for hours. It was magical.
Self control, focus, knowing what she needs, making perfect decisions - and all this time supported by her wonderful partner.
Absolutely incredible.

There were many exciting and emotional (and also scary and funny) moments during this birth - but to me this photo tells the whole story.

2 people, holding on to each other, supporting one another, loving each other - welcoming their beautiful daughter.

Happy birthday baby girl ♥️

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads out there - and to the sweet and loving man my kids are so lucky to call “aba” (dad in Hebrew).

The first time we met she told me that she knows for sure that her body knows how to give birth!

Well, let me tell you - she was absolutely right.

They labored together at home for a few hours, just the two of them, then I joined, and when it was time, we left for the hospital - getting there at 10 cm dilated, and ready to push.

Her body knew!
♥️♥️

Welcome to the world, beautiful baby boy 💙

This one is going to be a long serious post. Be aware 😉

I wrote this entry in Hebrew a long time ago, and I find myself going back to it over and over. It’s time I wrote one in English, right?

Let’s talk about hormones....
We read a lot about pregnancy, prepare so much for the birth, and then after we go home with our beautiful baby - every little thing makes us cry. Literally, EVERY LITTLE THING!

I remember how confused my husband was when my sister came back home from the hospital and started sobbing, because she couldn’t figure out whether she wanted to take a shower or not. He had never seen her like that, and looked for any excuse to go. We finally sent him to return something just so he can leave 😉
The same thing happened after every one of my kids’ births. I couldn’t understand why I was getting so upset and emotional, on and off for days. Can you imagine seeing me standing in front of the fridge crying my eyes out because I couldn’t find the butter? Yep, good times....

So what is really going on?
The body prepares for the birth using massive amount of wonderful hormones, and after we have the baby the body then shifts from a creative mode to a nurturing mode, using some of the same, but also new hormones. This hormonal celebration has a tremendous behavioral impact on us. It’s almost impossible to explain it to someone who hasn’t experienced it.

So what can you do to help?
Thanks for asking 😉
First and foremost, don’t belittle it. It’s a real thing and it’s definitely not silly. Saying things like:” how can you cry, look at your baby”, or “you should be grateful for this healthy baby” - those aren’t helping.
Instead, hug her, be supportive and tell her that she’s wonderful and beautiful - red tearing eyes or not ♥️
