Take a look at this article from Apple Support. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201686. You have to be able to upgrade your old machine to Yosemite (or whatever OS is on the new machine). Too bad for all of you who have machines that can only go to Mavericks. Interestingly enough you can't even trust a Time Machine backup made on a different model Mac running the same OS.

This article explains why you should not install a version of Mac OS X earlier than that which came with your Mac.

This is a very disturbing article. In short, it says that organizations like Chase were packaging up bad investments with good ones, giving them an A+ rating and selling them. The bottom fell out and took our economy with it. It's also interesting that one of the efforts to stop this practice was the Occupy Protests. Many of my more conservative colleagues said that 'they don't even know why they're protesting'. If you believe this article, it seems those ignorant people managed to get enough attention to get the White House to act; this in effect helped save our bacon. For those of you who think our economy is built to withstand this corruption, keep your head buried in the sand. It is built to allow this behavior simply because the laws can be ignored with no penalty (at least for some).

This is an interesting new device: An 'electronic wallet' that contains all of your credit cards, loyalty cards, etc plus your driver's license and with room for a picture of your kids.
