This is an interesting story. The fact of the matter is that what is or is not "Common Area" in an HOA is pretty black and white. This story demonstrates the need for management that is well versed in the governing documents of the HOA as well as California law. C Flood Management is that company.



San Marcos HOA residents face fines for flying American flags - Los Angeles Times

The fight between residents and the Ambiance Owners Assn. in San Marcos began after the HOA passed a policy prohibiting any flags, signs or banners in common areas.

Although this story makes it seem like the HOA is unfair, there is a reason the government (states and federal) have allowed 55 and older communities to be formed. 55 and older communities are designed specifically to keep living affordable and sociable for people who are known to be on limited budgets and socially isolated. I find it interesting that, in the time of social media justice, that this side of the story is not being told.

Bethany Michel, 28, claims that she is being forced out of the home she inherited from her father as her residency does not meet the community HOA’s 55-plus age requirement guidelines.
