When nonprofits come to me asking for help with their digital fundraising program - I usually give them 1 out of 4 answers.

1️⃣ just get started
2️⃣ get consistent with sending emails
3️⃣ provide high-value content
4️⃣ have a high-quality list

Simple simple, easy peasy!

If your nonprofit’s emails are not performing the way you want (or expect!) them to - you gotta figure out what’s missing from your emails…

FACTS 👇

➡️ It can take 20+ touchpoints before someone will take action with you (eg: make a donation)

➡️ Stories are more persuasive compared to straight facts and data.

➡️ Email has a 39:1 ROI

These are simply truths.

Time + stories + emails = RESULTS.

But it’s what you do now (and through the year!) that will make all the difference in Q4 when the most amount of money is being raised for nonprofits.

I know you have a LOT of choices when it comes to where you spend your hard earned resources.

So I went to the source - the people inside the Black Friday Bundle for Nonprofits and asked them: what does supporting you ACTUALLY mean? 🤔

I know for me, it means being a woman owned business who works hard to pay fair wages and put a generous paid time off schedule in place.

It means I’m able to model what being a “boss” to my 7-year old looks like every day.

It means I’m able to pour into the causes I love like , and - three organizations that center the needs of mothers in their work. 💛

When you buy from a small business - you are supporting a real human with their hopes and dreams and for that - I thank you 🙌

People, everywhere are massively overwhelmed. 💔

Headlines are built to stimulate you, but STORIES are what draw people in and get people to take action ⚡️.

During end-of-year campaign season - this is your reminder to use the power of ONE in your storytelling.

One person.
One place.
One thing.
..at a time.

👉 Instead of telling the story about the 100,000 dogs you saved from going to a kill shelter - tell the story of Mr. Pip: a three-legged pittie who loves sunbathing on the driveway and sneaking bites of bacon. 🐶

👉 Instead of talking about the 586 students who are falling behind in math and reading - tell the story of Landry who at 10 years old invented a memory game to help him recognize site word patterns. 📚

Tell one story at a time.

It’s digestible.
It’s actionable.
It’s effective.

Telling one story at a time gives people hope that their $5, $10, or $100 donation can actually make an impact and THAT is what brings people ✨JOY✨ in this very overwhelming world.

✨IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS✨

You probably already know that it’s STORIES, not facts, that people retain BETTER than anything else.

But it’s how you tell that story that gets people to remember…it’s the details.

I see so many nonprofit orgs want to take the shortest route in storytelling because they don’t want to take up too much of a donor’s time.

And to that I say: if the story is 🌟GOOD🌟length doesn’t matter.

If you want to instantly improve your writing by 100%, specificity is your new BFF.

I’m talking about…

Instead of telling us if it was morning ☀️ tell us it was blazing hot in the middle of April 🥵

Instead of telling us you served dinner - don’t make us guess if you served tacos 🌮 or pizza 🍕

Instead of telling us you rescued a pup, tell us you rescued a 110lb pit mix with a head as big as a bowling ball who will cuddle you to the cows come home 🐶

Oh wait…that’s just my Billy 😉

Details MATTER and when you are vying for attention - details are what make you memorable too 💛

👉 How to get donors to open, click, and reply to your emails…let’s go 👇

Believe it or not, your email list is like a muscle: the more you use it, the stronger it becomes (and the better chance it has of landing in inboxes vs spam).

But it’s not enough to just send your email…

You gotta get people to ⬇️

REPLY 👏

These metrics are a sign of the health and strength of your email list aka will determine how much you can expect to raise via email 💰

True example: I was working with a nonprofit who was getting great open rates (40% and higher), but the clicks were always low.

Turns out their email list was made up of a majority of past students and community members who loved being in the know, but who were not going to donate financially.

Together, we had to do some deep segmentation followed by list building to get the email list where it would function as a marketing tool that converted into donations 👍
