Fire extinguisher vs. firearm. It flat out doesn’t work. If you are an educator who was taught to spray a fire extinguisher against an active shooter, please know it will get you killed. Watch the video and read below.
This video is flipped in roles with Police having the firearm and the suspect having the fire extinguisher. The other difference is, the officer has his firearm holstered but is still able to draw and fire even with being sprayed in the face with the extinguisher.
In the video, you will see that the man holding the fire extinguisher gets shot immediately after spraying the officer.
Now let’s play this out with an active shooter having the firearm and you, the teacher having the fire extinguisher. The active shooter already has the firearm at the ready when entering a classroom, his/her finger on the trigger. In the video, the officer has to draw his firearm from the holster and is still able to fire within 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 seconds striking the man multiple times with gun shots.
Throwing this back to the teacher and an active shooter, the teacher would be shot in less than 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 seconds. Then what or who is next? You guessed it, the kids in the classroom.
Lessons learned…
1) No fire extinguisher spray will incapacitate a shooter.
2) The shooter will not stand in a static position or stay in the same spot where he/she was sprayed as the discharge powder is not some miracle freeze solution like a video game.
3) You will be met immediately with gun fire and be shot and most likely killed in under 1 1/2 seconds.
4) Once you spray the shooter, you get his/her immediate attention with his/her finger on the trigger followed by gunfire. The shooter can and will still pull the trigger in your direction.
5) You do not have the ability to follow spraying the extinguisher by making a strike to the head under 1 1/2 seconds. You nor I are that fast.
6) Gun shots (bullets) travel right through the cloud of powdery discharge as the discharged powder is not a miracle force field.
7) You just wasted your element of surprise to cause harm to the shooter and incapacitating him/her.
😎 Anyone teaching this method to the good folks that just want to educate students, protect themselves and our precious children the right way; should immediately stop, get trained by actual active shooter instructors with true and tested measures or they should flat out quit and advise those clients they wronged them and refund them.
