What do you think about this?

In 1898, a Swedish farmer named Olof Ohman was clearing trees on his land in Solem Township, Minnesota, when he pulled up a slab of stone tangled in the roots of an aspen. The roots had grown around it. Carved into its face was a message written in runes, the old Norse alphabet, and when it was finally translated it told a chilling story.

Eight Goths and twenty two Norwegians, on a journey of exploration west from Vinland. They made camp by two skerries. They went fishing for a day. When they came home, ten of their men were found red with blood, and dead. At the bottom of the stone, a year. 1362. That date would place Scandinavian explorers in the middle of North America a full one hundred and thirty years before Columbus ever set sail.

Most scholars have called it a hoax since the first examination in 1910. Yet the believers point to things that are hard to wave away. The way the tree roots had grown around a stone a farmer supposedly carved himself. The weathering in the grooves. The obscure medieval runes that a Minnesota homesteader would have had no way of knowing.

What if the textbooks have the timeline of who reached this continent, and when, completely wrong?

Real or forgery, what do you think that stone really is?

What do you think about this?

The Aztecs believed that the world has been destroyed four times already, and we are living in the fifth age.

Each of the previous worlds, what they called Suns, lasted thousands of years before ending in catastrophe. The first Sun was destroyed by jaguars, the wild animals of the earth turning on the people. The second was unmade by winds, hurricanes so violent they erased everything. The third ended in a rain of fire. The fourth ended in a flood that drowned the planet and turned the survivors into fish. Each time, the gods rebuilt and tried again.

The cycle is preserved in the Codex Boturini and the Codex Vaticanus A, both painted before the Spanish destruction of the Aztec libraries. It is carved into the Sun Stone, the twenty four ton basalt monolith dug up under the Zocalo in 1790 and now in the National Museum in Mexico City. The five ages stare back from the center of that disk in symbols Aztec priests still recognized when the Spanish arrived.

We are in the Fifth Sun, Ollintonatiuh, the Sun of Movement. The Aztecs predicted it would end in earthquakes.

The strange part is who else carries this story. The Hopi tradition describes four prior worlds and a current fifth age. The Maya Long Count tracks vast cycles of destruction and renewal. The Mesopotamian flood myth, the biblical flood, the Hindu yugas, all describe a planet that has been wiped clean before, sometimes more than once, by water and by fire.

Is it possible the people of the ancient world were not making any of this up, but trying to tell us about something that actually happened?

What do you think about this?

In 1936, a German archaeologist named Wilhelm Konig was working at a museum in Baghdad when he found something in the basement collection that did not belong to any catalogued period of Mesopotamian history.

It was a clay jar, about five inches tall, sealed with bitumen. Inside the jar was a hollow copper cylinder. Inside the cylinder was an iron rod, suspended so it never touched the copper walls. Traces of acidic residue, possibly vinegar or wine, lined the inside of the jar.

Drop an acid into that arrangement and you have a galvanic cell. A battery. The same basic design Alessandro Volta is credited with inventing in 1800, almost two thousand years later.

The jar was dated to the Parthian period, somewhere between 250 BC and 224 AD.

When the design was reconstructed by modern engineers, including at MIT and on multiple television programs, it produced between half a volt and a full volt. Enough to electroplate small objects in gold or silver. Some researchers have pointed out that ancient Iraqi silversmiths produced gilded pieces that look, under a microscope, exactly like electroplated work.

Mainstream archaeologists have proposed it was a scroll storage vessel. They have not, in ninety years, explained the copper cylinder, the suspended iron rod, the bitumen seal, or the acid traces.

The original jar was looted from the Baghdad Museum in the chaos of 2003 and has never been recovered.

What if a working battery existed in the ancient Near East two thousand years before our textbooks say it did, and the knowledge of how to make it was simply lost?

What do you think about this?

It was the night of December 29, 1980, on a deserted road outside Huffman, Texas. Betty Cash, her friend Vickie Landrum, and Vickie's seven year old grandson Colby were driving home from dinner. They saw a light in the distance that grew into a diamond shaped craft hovering low over the road, fire shooting from its base, the air around it shimmering with heat.

They got out of the car. Betty Cash got close enough to the thing that her car door handle was hot enough to leave a burn through her glove.

Then the helicopters came. Twenty three of them, Chinooks the women later identified by sight, flying in formation around the craft as if escorting it away.

Within hours, all three of them were sick. Burns on the skin. Hair falling out. Blistering. Eyes swollen shut. Betty Cash spent twelve days in the hospital. Doctors documented their symptoms as consistent with acute radiation poisoning.

They sued the United States government for $20 million. The case went to federal court in Houston in 1986. The court did not deny they had been injured. It dismissed the case because the women could not prove the craft belonged to the US government, which the government also refused to confirm or deny.

The medical records exist. The court ruling exists. The twenty three helicopters were tracked by witnesses across multiple counties.

Could it be the United States had a craft in the air that night so secret it was worth letting three civilians get burned by it rather than admit it ever existed?

What do you think about this?In the final months of World War II, as the Imperial Japanese Army was being pushed out of the Philippines, a general named Tomoyuki Yamash*ta allegedly oversaw the burial of a fortune the world had never seen on one map before. We are talking about a stockpile pulled from every country Japan had occupied. Gold bars, platinum, gemstones, religious relics, looted bank reserves from Singapore to Shanghai to Manila. Some estimates run into the hundreds of billions of dollars at today's prices. The story goes that Yamash*ta's engineers buried it in over a hundred sites across the island of Luzon, then sealed the tunnels with the prisoners of war who dug them. Yamash*ta was hanged for war crimes in 1946. The maps, if they ever existed, were divided up among officers, smuggled out, lost, or quietly handed to powers who had reasons of their own to keep things buried. In 1988, a Filipino treasure hunter named Rogelio Roxas filed a lawsuit claiming he had found a chamber including a one ton solid gold Buddha, and that Ferdinand Marcos had it confiscated. A Hawaii court eventually sided with the Roxas estate, in a judgment that still reads like fiction.People are still digging Luzon today. Caves, mountainsides, old monasteries, places marked on hand drawn maps that pass between families and never make the news.Could it be the largest treasure in human history is sitting under our feet, and the people who know where will never tell us?

What do you think about this? There is a canyon north of Thompson Springs, Utah, where three different ancient peoples left their art on the same red sandstone wall. The Fremont. The Ute. And, oldest of the three by thousands of years, the Barrier Canyon culture. The Barrier Canyon figures are what stop you in your tracks. They tower seven, eight, nine feet tall. They have no arms. No legs. No mouths. Just elongated bodies and large hollow eyes, painted in dark red ochre. Some have what look like antennae rising from their heads. Some are surrounded by smaller figures, animals, geometric shapes, snakes. They were painted between 6,000 and 2,000 BC, which means the oldest of them are roughly twice the age of the Pyramids. The mainstream archaeological reading is shamanic. Trance state visions, otherworldly beings encountered in altered consciousness, recorded by spiritual practitioners on a wall they considered sacred. There is real ethnographic support for that interpretation across the Colorado Plateau. But the alternative reading has been pulling in field researchers for decades. The figures do not look human. They do not look like spirits the way other indigenous traditions render them. They look, to a lot of people standing in front of them in person, like beings from somewhere else.I have stood in front of these panels myself. The feeling is not academic. The feeling is that someone was trying to tell us, in the only language they had, exactly what they saw.The truth may be far stranger than we have been told.

What do you think about this?
In 1891, a German immigrant named Jacob Waltz died telling stories of a gold mine hidden in Arizona's Superstition Mountains. He drew maps. He named landmarks. He described ore so rich a single shovelful could change a life. Then he was gone, and the mine was never confirmed found.
Six months. That is how long Adolph Ruth's body was lost in those mountains in 1931 before searchers found his skull. A bullet hole drilled clean through it. His skeleton was found later, in a separate place. No murderer was ever named.
Since then, dozens of seekers have gone in and not come back. Some claim they found the mine and could not return to it. Others claim they were chased out by figures in the cliffs. The Apache called the range sacred long before Waltz arrived, and their warning was clear. Do not dig where the mountain does not want to be touched.
More lives lost than any single gold find in American history. Yet people keep going.
Could it be the mine is real, and something out there is making sure no one ever takes it? Or is the mountain just a mountain, and we keep mistaking accident for curse?
