CAS Curator and Assistant Director, Amy Reid will be participating as a panelist in this film screening of DAHOMEY and Q&A. She looks forward to the panel discussion and to encouraging ACC students to consider transferring to TXST through the BATS to CATS program.

Join us at the Highland Campus on Tuesday, April 14th, at 6pm for a film screening of DAHOMEY followed by a panel discussion at 7:30pm.

Attend one or both!

Winner of the Golden Bear at the 2024 Berlinale, Mati Diop’s dynamic film, Dahomey, brings a dazzling sense of imagination to vital issues of self-determination and restitution. Amplifying voices from beyond the walls of international museums, this spellbinding work redefines the spaces of culture and art.

Join us for a discussion following the film!

We welcome guests Amy Reid and Shuja Uddin to consider topics including how archeologists collect artifacts, how museums approach object repatriation, the management of artifacts, national patrimony, perspectives on culture and representation, documentary filmmaking, and intercultural relationships between filmmakers, artists, and curators. We also welcome *you* to ask your questions!

RSVP at the link in bio!

CAS has had the privelage of assisting 4, (and possibly soon a 5th) First Lego League teams. First Lego League is an international competition that presents a STEM problem that must be solved every year, and this year it’s theme was UNEARTHED and archaeologically based. Teams had to research and find out what problems archaeologists face, and how can teams use technology to help solve those problems. The teams had to talk about the problems with real archaeologists, then present the solution they developed to a “real archaeologist” to get their feedback.

CAS was BLOWN AWAY by the thought and ingenuity that went into the projects, all of which were cutting edge and represented true innovation and thought leadership. These innovations and the ideas they generate will likely make an impact our field. We want to thank the ArchaeoBots, the ReWinders, the RoboRockers, and the OGs. All of the teams were primarily 5th graders and came from Cactus Ranch Elementary in RRISD, Canyon Creek Elementary in RRISD, Clayton and Kiker Elementary in AISD, and even a team as far north as Dallas associated with the Itkan Institute of Technology. One of the teams we assisted has developed a website as part of their project that they hope will also educate the public on archaeology:

https://archeobotadventure.lovable.app
Please help cheer these Teams on as they head into Qualifiers starting this weekend!!!! More on First Lego League itself in the first comment.
