Last year in April, Google announced that web pages that were not mobile friendly would be penalized in mobile searches. Last December Google announced Page Speed Insights, an algorithm that tests page load speed. Although they have not announced that they will penalize slow loading web pages, it is likely to happen. This is all done with the goal of making the mobile experience better for Google users.
