❤️Life is beautiful with squirrels 🐿️
You won’t believe how many colors a squirrel can wear.
Meet the Malabar giant squirrel. It lives high in the forests of India, where the light is soft and the trees feel endless. It’s shy. It’s fast. And when the sun hits its fur, you see maroon, orange, cream, even hints of purple. It looks like a little ember moving through the canopy.
This squirrel is only found in India. You can see it in the Western Ghats, parts of the Eastern Ghats, and pockets of central India. It spends almost all of its life in the treetops, leaping from branch to branch and keeping a careful eye on the ground below.
It’s big for a squirrel. Head to tail, it can stretch close to a meter. That long tail works like a tightrope walker’s pole, helping it balance in the high canopy.
Food is simple and seasonal. Fruits, flowers, seeds, and tender bark. Sometimes it tucks snacks into tree hollows like a secret pantry. It’s a quiet gardener of the forest, spreading seeds as it moves.
Seeing one is a small rush of joy. It freezes for a moment, ears forward, then glides to the next branch like a brushstroke of color. You hold your breath, hoping for one more look.
Forests are its shield. When the woods are healthy, these squirrels thrive. When forests are cut or broken, they fade away. If you ever walk those trails, listen for leaves rustling above. Look up. You might catch a flash of maroon and cream, and feel lucky the rest of the day.
