WIFE - The Importance of Daydreaming (LP)
Wife is Char, Liv, Lucky, and Siena. Two of them are siblings, and despite the rumors, none of them are married. Wife formed in San Francisco in late 2021, recently releasing their second LP, “The Importance of Daydreaming,” on Recess Records last fall. With a wide range of influences between the four, Wife’s music comes out sounding primordial and dissonant- combining punk, post-hardcore, noise rock, and who knows what else. THE DUMPIES - Lub Dub (LP)
For the making of Lub Dub, the Dumpies traveled down to Austin, Texas to record at The BBQ Shack. The owner of The BBQ Shack, Jason Morales, moved to Austin in the 90’s and had an amazing band, originally from Olympia, WA, called Starfish. He has since become an important member of the Austin music scene in bands such as Tia Carrera and many others. Jason began engineering with Mike Vasquez at his Austin studio, Sweatbox, in the 2000’s and after the studio burnt down, he eventually opened his own. The BBQ Shack has much the same vibe as Sweatbox and is a favorite of Austin underground bands. Jason and Mike recorded and mixed the album in three days and sent it off to Chicago for Carl Saff to master. On the final day of recording in Austin, the Dumpies departed on a Texas tour with Night Court and Faulty Cognitions.

CIGARETTE CAMP - Steps (LP)
Cigarette Camp is back with their 3rd, 4th (who knows) release, but this time it’s their debut full-length! Self-described Boston copy machine punk. Somehow I talked them into doing an album of what was supposed to be two more 7”s & I’m sure glad I did because it fu***ng rules. Definitely their best recording and batch of songs to date. 19 songs about the hospital, alcoholism, cleaning up & starting over on a 45rpm 12”! Even more of that ripping & melodic rough pop-punk you know from ‘em (and all their previous bands: Awful Man, Witches With Dicks+). This one’s wrapping up the year pretty damn strong, so don’t make that top ten list no one will read just yet. Oi!

FAULTY COGNITIONS - They Promised Us Heaven (LP)
Smart & melodic socio-political indie punk rock from Texas. Ex-members of Low Culture, Shang-a-lang, Nocturnal Prose & more. Their sophomore album is hands-down the best batch of songs to date. “Faulty Cognitions have an undeniable energy. The San Antonio quartet has a penchant for upbeat, catchy songs that complement the alienation and social disillusionment explored by lyricist Chris Mason on their sophomore album, They Promised Us Heaven. Mason dwells on the concept of “hypernormalization” of the horrors of our everyday world, otherwise characterized by the powerlessness of the common individual to change or resist the world’s current power structure, leaving people aware but immobile. Throughout They Promised Us Heaven, Mason lyrically reflects on global capitalism, domestic inequality, and the Palestinian genocide in Gaza with grief and clarity, as the band plays deeply melodic alt-rock with an impossible-to-hide punk attitude. Co-release w/ Shield Records in Europe.

HELLBENDER - Con Limón (LP)
Been keeping this one under wraps for a bit now, but we are so excited to announce a remastered reissue of Hellbender’s final album & magnum opus, 1997’s “Con Limón”. Hellbender was a punk rock band from Carrboro, North Carolina. Existing roughly for only about 6 years, they released 3 full lengths, numerous singles & split 7”s, and spent a good amount of that time on the road. Comprised of members Al Burian (MILEMARKER & Burn Collector zine), Harrison Haynes (LES SAVY FAV) & Wells Tower (American author) “Con Limón” was a far departure from their previous albums, melding various styles of indie & punk to make a batch of songs that were unknowingly years ahead of their time. Recorded by Alap Momin & originally on New York’s Reservoir Records. Remastered from the original unmastered DAT mixes by Carl Saff to bring a whole new life to this lost East Coast cult classic. If you know, you know. If not, it’s time to get on board with one of the best-kept secrets of the 1990s punk.

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS - Inhale. Exhale. Smile (12” EP)
I.E.S. is the 22nd EP from the ever evolving project Off With Their Heads. Simply put, it’s a covers album with a twist. All the songs chosen for the project are outside the genre the band has been lumped into. This self recorded collection of six songs was a project intended to sharpen Ryan Young’s (OWTH founder and sole original member) home recording skills. All songs were chosen, arranged and recorded day of. Each song choice is meant to pay homage to the original artist by trying to catch a different energy.

SMOKING POPES - Lovely Stuff (LP)
Chicago punk legends Smoking Popes are back with a new full length studio album called Lovely Stuff, their first since 2018’s Into The Agony. The album will be released in April 2025 by Anxious & Angry, available on 12” LP vinyl, digital download and streaming platforms. This new self-produced album was recorded at Bombsight Studio, Bloomington IL and Million Yen Studio, Chicago IL with David Rossi and Andy Ge**er engineering.

“It took us about two years to make this record,” says lead singer and songwriter Josh Caterer. “We went into the studio with just two songs in the summer of 2022, then I kept writing and we’d go back every few months and record another couple songs. It was a long process because we were doing it all piecemeal, but I think the final product has a cohesive energy. The songs all feel connected.” Two tracks from the album, “Madison” and “Golden Moment,” have already been released as singles and two more are on the way, “Racine” in February and “Fox River Dream” just before the album drops. These two tracks will be preceded in January by a non-album single called “Allegiance,” an incendiary protest song with guest vocals from Scott Lucas of Local H.

The title Lovely Stuff was inspired by the band’s recent tour of the UK. “We played a small club in Northwich called the Salty Dog,” Caterer explains, “and at one point the audience started chanting, ‘Lovely stuff! Lovely stuff!’ It was really a beautiful moment and so ridiculously British. I mean, where else in the world would an audience chant that?” The title also signals a departure from the band’s notoriously negative album titles, such as Born to Quit, Destination Failure, and Into the Agony. “Calling this album Lovely Stuff felt right because it says something about where our heads are at right now. I wouldn’t exactly say we’re optimistic, but we’re at least determined to keep moving forward, to keep finding what is lovely in an unlovely world.”

THE SLOW DEATH - No Light to See (LP)
No Light to See is the 5th studio album from The Slow Death, and by far their most artistically sweeping and impressive with its smart hooks, soaring guitar leads, powerful drumming, and lyrics that’ll make you cry sung by a wild man who can’t quiet the howling of the ghosts in his head, and is weighed down by the bleakness burdening everyone around him.

The Slow Death is Jesse “Pretty Boy” Thorson’s most prolific project which has a lineup that’s always evolving, and this album’s tough hard working crew with Jack Gribble on drums, Luke Lechler on organ+guitars, and the bonus of Alex Bammel sprinkling some incredibly clever guitar leads on in the studio is hard to beat. No Light to See feels like an eerily special record that will speak volumes to anyone feeling like an outsider in these insane times, and remind us that while we’re all out there on our own, we’re shoulder to shoulder in solidarity.
