AEG 2026 Annual Meeting - "Postcards from Chattanooga"

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure at the AEG 2026 Annual Meeting in Chattanooga! ๐ŸŽ‰ The Ocoee River is calling your name with its breathtaking scenery, intriguing geology, and thrilling world class whitewater fun! Did you know this stunning river hosted the whitewater events for the 1996 Olympic Games? Itโ€™s true โ€“ the only time the Olympics featured an in-river course!

Traveling upstream from the Great Smoky Fault at the mouth of the gorge, Highway 64 traverses a classic Barrovian metamorphic sequence while passing two TVA-owned hydropower stations that date back to the 1910s (Ocoee 1 and Ocoee 2) - as well as the site of a 30,000 cubic yard rockslide that occurred in November 2009.

Join us on Field Course 6 on September 19 to explore the spectacular Ocoee Gorge. Youโ€™ll have the chance to go rafting in the afternoon for an adrenaline rush like no other! If you prefer a different kind of fun, head over to Mercier Orchards for some fantastic apple picking, delicious cider, and mouthwatering pie! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅง Register Now, www.aegannualmeeting.org.

AEG 2026 Annual Meeting Postcards from Chattanooga!

In the fall of 1863, several significant Civil War battles took place in and around Chattanooga, including the Battle of Chickamauga, the Battle of Missionary Ridge, and the renowned โ€œBattle Above the Cloudsโ€ at Lookout Mountain. The casualties at Chickamauga were surpassed only by those at Gettysburg.

The Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park features Visitor Centers at the Chickamauga Battlefield in North Georgia and at Point Park on Lookout Mountain. The anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga (September 18-20, 1863) aligns with our Annual Meeting, and Field Course 3 on Tuesday, 9/15/26 will include a visit to Point Park. ๐ŸŒ„โœจ
