RPD Case No. RPD25-0011112
Homicide at Transitional Living Facility
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at approximately 7:08 PM, Redding Police were dispatched to Stability Solutions, LLC, a transitional living facility located within the 11000 block of Aruba Drive. The initial caller, a resident of the facility, reported a male victim had been stabbed in the abdomen.
The suspect was quickly identified as Matthew Jacob Riddle, 26, of Redding. Riddle fled the facility on foot but was apprehended by responding officers as he crossed Highway 299. The victim, another resident of the facility, was found suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center for trauma care but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim was identified as a 42-year-old former resident of Anderson, CA. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office is working to locate and notify next of kin before releasing his identity.
The investigation revealed that Riddle and the victim were involved in a physical altercation after Riddle falsely accused the victim of being a registered s*x offender. Following the fight, Riddle armed himself with a kitchen knife, sought out the victim, and stabbed him multiple times. Surveillance footage captured Riddle leaving the residence and later returning to verbally taunt the victim, who was being aided by other residents. Riddle then fled the property on foot. After his arrest, Riddle was transported to a local hospital for precautionary examination of injuries sustained during the fight. He
is being held on $1,000,000 bail for first-degree murder.
Redding Police have learned, both the suspect and the victim were on probation in Shasta County, with the suspect also on probation in Humboldt County. Both individuals had been referred to Stability Solutions by Shasta County Probation, and their accommodations, like those of their housemates, were funded by Partnership HealthPlan of California. They lived at the facility alongside seven other residents, including two on probation from out of county, two on parole from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and one on Post-Release Community Supervision, for a total of nine residents.
The Redding Police Department remains committed to ensuring safe neighborhoods for all community members and we are working closely with our partners at the City of Redding to ensure all transitional living facilities in Redding are following licensing regulations. In addition, we continue to work with county and state officials to reduce the influx of out of area offenders being housed in our community.
