Sometimes we get up, the day doesn’t sit right, we decide it’s not going to be a good one and boom - that’s the way it is. Your day is now crap.
We have something in our brains called the Reticular Activating System and to keep it short - it’s our filtration system so we don’t take in EVERYTHING the world is throwing at us. But just enough for our minds to absorb. It’s a mind filter to protect us.
Now how does it decide what it filters out and what it keeps?
That’s where your thoughts and influences come in. It’s kind of like Facebooks and Instagrams algorithm. When you start googling red socks a bunch, that’s what is going to show up on your feed. If you start searching for espresso machines, that’s what is going to start showing up on your feed. We’ve all experienced this. They’ve coded it so it filters through what you WANT to see based on what you’re putting out there.
Our minds are basically the same.
If you’re thinking about buying a new Jeep, you’ll see Jeeps everywhere.
If you thinking about dying your hair blonde, you’ll see blondes everywhere.
If you’re thinking about having a baby. Boom babies everywhere.
We are what we think. Which means…
WE HAVE POWER OVER OUR MINDS.
I was very excited when I found all of this out, so I wanted to do a little test. And this is what I found.
So I usually wake up a bit depressed. I need about 2 hours of self care every morning to feel ready to start the day. Otherwise, im anxious and im just a bit off mentally. I wanted to change this. It’s a bit ridiculous I wake up so often feeling like s**t and needing a lot of time to feel better. This wasn’t sustainable. So I decided to put it to the test - If I woke up everyday for a month saying theses words, today I will feel and experience happiness, would it change my mindset?
Would I feel more happiness? Just like the Reticular Activating System says.
After a week, I noticed it.
At first, the shift wasn’t huge - I just woke up with a little more pep in my step. But it wasn’t anything too noticeable as I could credit it to a good night sleep.
But then after week 2. The only way I can describe it is. - REST OF CAPTION IN COMMENTS. 👇🏽
