A quick update on final guidelines for New York State employers regarding Sexual Harassment Compliance Training:
1. All New York State employees must complete training each year, and the deadline to train all employees is October 9, 2019.
2. New hires must be trained as soon as possible following their hire date.
3. Companies must implement the state’s model sexual harassment policy, or review their existing policy, and modify it to meet the new NY State standards.
4. The new sexual harassment policy must include a complaint form for submission of claims.
5. Specific guidelines must be followed for nondisclosure agreements.

According to the New York Times, after the Harvey Weinstein scandal, there have been over 71 high profile cases of sexual misconduct sparking the 'me too' movement and calling for a need for change and to stop these incidences for reoccurring.

Sexual misconduct, hostile work environment, inappropriate workplace behavior…frightening words that are dominating our news media. Lawmakers have responded by passing sweeping legislation requiring companies to update their harassment policies and implement mandatory interactive harassment prevention training. Important Note: Effective October 9, 2018, New York State employers with more than 15 employees will be required to provide annual harassment prevention training.
