As Jill walked through her home during her consultation with Clutter Free, she repeatedly commented that she hated her house in the North Raleigh area. She was overwhelmed and wanted to move into a smaller home because she was struggling to manage it all. Her husband however was happy in their home and wanted to stay.

I tell clients that if they have items that are no longer blessing them and they will fit in my car, I will take them and drop them off at a local donation location. This was as packed as my car has ever been! It took the three donation guys 20 minutes to unload all of the books.

Whether you decorate like Charlie Brown or you compete with your neighbors for the best holiday light show, it's time to pull out the holiday decor and sort through what you are going to use this year. Clutter Free advocates that if it is worth keeping, then it is worth keeping well. You don’t have to use the special holiday bins but we recommend red and green or at least clear bins. Cardboard containers attract bugs and rodents in the attic or basement so plastic bins are a better choice to keep decor well.

Your home is your museum and just like a museum it is a good idea to rotate your collections. As you decorate the house for the holidays, put away some of the decor that has been out all year to keep your home from feeling cluttered.

If you find items that no longer bless you, release them early to your local donation center so someone else can find them as treasures to enjoy.
