Seeing a termite swarmer doesn’t always mean you have an infestation. 👀
During swarming season, it’s common to spot a few winged termites outside on patio furniture, screens, or exterior walls.

But seeing a swarm inside your home—especially around windows, doors, baseboards, or other areas of the structure—is a different story. That can be a sign of an active termite colony and should be inspected.

The key is knowing what you’re seeing, where you’re seeing it, and how many. 🔎

Think you spotted a termite? 👀 Don’t let the wings fool you.

Flying ants and termite swarmers can look surprisingly similar at first glance, but the antennae, waist, and wings can help tell them apart.

And if it IS a termite, there’s one more question: Drywood or subterranean? 🧐

🏠 Drywood termite swarmers are typically larger, reddish-brown, and commonly swarm in the warmer months, often later in the day or evening.

🌱 Subterranean termite swarmers are typically smaller and darker, and their colonies live underground with termites traveling between the soil and the structure.

Seeing swarmers inside your home, especially emerging from a wall, ceiling, window frame, baseboard, or other part of the structure? That’s worth paying attention to. An inspection can help determine exactly what you’re dealing with, and where it’s coming from.

Ever wonder what actually happens after your termite inspection?🔎🏠

The inspection is only the beginning. Your termite report gives you a clear picture of what was found, where it was found, and what we recommend doing about it.

Our inspectors document visible findings and conditions in accessible areas, including termite activity, termite damage, fungus/dry rot, other visible conditions, and areas that may need further inspection. Each finding is identified on the report and mapped on the property diagram, so you can see exactly where it was observed.

From there, we provide recommendations based on the findings. That could mean fumigation, local or subterranean treatment, wood or fungus-damage repairs, further inspection, or another appropriate correction.

And when work is needed, The Termite Guy can coordinate the process from inspection through treatment and termite-related repairs.

🚨 TERMITE SWARMER ALERT!

Hot, humid weather can create ideal conditions for termite swarming, and with the recent mix of heat, humidity, and rain, Southern California homeowners may start noticing more winged termites.

So, what exactly are swarmers?

Swarmers are reproductive termites that leave an established colony to mate and start new colonies. You may see them flying around your property, gathering near lights and windows, or you may only find the discarded wings they leave behind.

Keep an eye out for:
- Winged termites inside or around your home
- Piles of small, discarded wings near windows and doors
- Swarmers gathering around lights
- Multiple swarmers emerging from the same area

🏠 Seeing swarmers INSIDE your home?
Pay attention — especially if they're emerging from walls, ceilings, window frames, baseboards, or wood trim. This can indicate termites are established within the structure.

Subterranean termites live underground and build mud tubes to travel between the soil and a structure while maintaining the protected environment they need.

You may find them along foundations, concrete walls, crawl spaces, plumbing penetrations, or other areas where termites can gain access to the structure.

And here’s the important part: breaking the tube doesn’t solve the termite problem. The colony is underground, so subterranean termites require a completely different treatment approach than drywood termites.
