Subterranean termites live underground and build mud tubes to travel between the soil and a structure while maintaining the protected environment they need.

You may find them along foundations, concrete walls, crawl spaces, plumbing penetrations, or other areas where termites can gain access to the structure.

And here’s the important part: breaking the tube doesn’t solve the termite problem. The colony is underground, so subterranean termites require a completely different treatment approach than drywood termites.

Formosan termites are already established in coastal areas. Asian subterranean termites were recently confirmed in Southern California.

In Florida, these two species have been found to hybridize creating large, fast-growing colonies that are harder to control.

There is no confirmed hybrid activity in California
but both species are now being closely monitored.
