Formula 1 hasn’t raced at Sepang since 2017. A lot can change in nine years.

Captured this weekend, this 35 cm SAR image provides a detailed look at the Sepang International Circuit and the infrastructure required to support the highest pedigree of racing—from the circuit itself to the grandstands, paddock, and surrounding facilities.

Rain was part of race day at Sepang. For SAR, it’s just another collection. High-resolution imagery captures that complexity with clarity, day or night and regardless of weather.

The circuit may have been off the F1 calendar. It hasn’t been out of view.

Umbra has been selected by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as a commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data provider under its Space-Based Environmental Monitoring IDIQ contract.

Through the Active Sensors category, Umbra's American-made SAR constellation will provide NOAA access to high-resolution Earth observation data-day or night and through clouds, storms, and other challenging conditions-to support weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, and scientific research.

Today marks the next chapter in our partnership with the National Reconnaissance Office.

The Antarctic winter offers no daylight. Temperatures plummet. Conditions become some of the harshest on Earth.

For emperor penguins, it's breeding season.

For scientists, it has long been a blind spot. But even when visibility disappears, critical insights remain within reach.

Researchers at the University of Canterbury utilized Umbra's high-resolution SAR imagery to detect and track emperor penguin colonies throughout the Antarctic winter, providing new insight into breeding populations during a critical stage of their lifecycle.
