Today marks the next chapter in our partnership with the National Reconnaissance Office.

Umbra has been awarded a sole-source follow-on contract through the NRO's Commercial Systems Program Office (CSPO) to provide assured commercial SAR capabilities in support of U.S. national security missions. Over the past four years, we've delivered more than 100,000 SAR images over critical areas of interest—providing reliable, all-weather, day-and-night intelligence when it matters most.

The Antarctic winter offers no daylight. Temperatures plummet. Conditions become some of the harshest on Earth.

For emperor penguins, it's breeding season.

For scientists, it has long been a blind spot. But even when visibility disappears, critical insights remain within reach.

Researchers at the University of Canterbury utilized Umbra's high-resolution SAR imagery to detect and track emperor penguin colonies throughout the Antarctic winter, providing new insight into breeding populations during a critical stage of their lifecycle.
