I hate second guessing my decisions. In January I decided not to make wine in 2026 but after attending my good friend’s son’s wedding where my pet nat was featured, I came home & started questioning that choice. That put me into a funk the past few weeks. I’ve done a grape harvest every year since 2012 & skipping one hurts.

I’ll be ok but I’ve realized sharing my issues is part of my therapy and hopefully will lead others to do the same.

Our just released 2022 Reentry Cabernet Sauvignon is now available , along with our 2022 pet nat & Grenache.

This isn’t your normal Cali Cabernet at only 13.5% ABV, no new oak, and just 16 months aging in neutral oak barrels. Jammy and fruit forward, great with a steak or by itself on the patio. 50 cases produced.

Communication and openness are keys to defeating the evil twins of depression & PTSD. They thrive in the darkness of the stigma of mental health and by talking about them we shine a light on them and take away their power.

The stigmas are so powerful they kept me silent on my problems for 18 years but now every time I talk about it weakens their hold on me.

Last night was fun. poured wine for the 20th Air Force senior leaders conference ice breaker . It was nice being back with folks from my old life in the USAF and really cool to get a coin from the 2 Star 20th AF Commander.

The last photo is what’s called a Deuce Bill challenge. Our old Minuteman III ICBM unit was nicknamed Deuce and every crew member was issued a $2 bill, which came with a long list of challenge rules. Biggest rule is if you challenge another unit member to produce their Deuce bill and they don’t have it then they owe you a drink but if they do have it then you owe them a drink. The general and I both served in the same unit (564th Missile Squadron at different times, I was there 10 years before her) so I challenged her and lost. She got a bottle of wine 🤣.

Let me introduce our signature cocktail, the Los Alamos ‘76, based on the French 75. This will be your new favorite summer sipper, the flavorful botanicals of Uncle Val’s gin, shaken with fresh lemon juice & simple syrup then topped with our Fizzion pet nat. Los Alamos was founded in 1876, hence the name. If you missed our last show, we’ll be back in December 2026 for more dinner theater at Pico Los Alamos.

Recipe
1 oz Uncle Val gin (or gin of your choice)
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Shake vigorously over ice
Pour into flute (or plastic cup depending on situation)
Top with 3 oz Rockets Red Fizzion.

Our 2022 Santa Barbara County Cabernet Sauvignon is finally ready and is releasing later this week. This wine is not your typical California Cabernet, unoaked and 13.5% abv allows the jammy fruit notes to come forward making for an easy drinking and approachable wine. 50 cases produced.

Big news! Our first new wine release in 18 months is happening May 1st. Two wine coming up, first is the 2025 vintage of our ever popular Fizzion Pet Nat and this one is probably the best yet. Second is our 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Ventucopa Highlands. This lush & jammy cab spent 16 month in only neutral oak allowing the full expression of the fruit to come forward.

Gris is our QA supervisor & is inspecting today’s label delivery.
