What happens when vehicle-based methane detection systems are put to the test in real-world conditions?

In the DVGW-funded FaMeGQ research project, six vehicle-based systems were evaluated through controlled testing and real-world validation on an active gas distribution network. Picarro achieved the highest overall performance recorded during the project.

The results speak for themselves:
✅ 10 of 10 methane events detected — 100%, the highest result in the project
✅ 84.8% composite performance score — highest of all six evaluated systems
✅ Highest combined score across controlled and field testing
✅ Two previously unknown leaks found and later independently confirmed
✅ Qualification obtained without limitations

Picarro was the only system to identify all eight simulated leaks and both additional confirmed leaks during real-world field validation.

💧 Preparing small-volume water samples for isotope analysis can be time-consuming, especially when the presence of salts, electrolytes, and other impurities requires distillation before measurement.

In our latest Picarro Spotlight, Kate Schuler, Application Scientist at Picarro, highlights new research from Daisy Kazeneza Butera and colleagues at the AEL National Facility for AMS at the University of Ottawa. The research demonstrates the effectiveness of the Analab’s EvapoClean™, an automated, closed-system microdistillation system for purifying water samples under 20 mL. The approach achieved 99.7–99.9% gravimetric recovery while preserving stable water isotope ratios.

When combined with Picarro L2130-i or L2140-i high-precision water isotope analyzers, automated microdistillation can enable cleaner, higher-throughput isotope workflows—delivering reliable data from even the most challenging small-volume water samples.
