I dusted off the old 390 today. It’s been too long since I last rode it. Last races on it were 2009 or 2010 D-37 GP series. Last time on it was over a year ago. It’s pretty special. 1978 390CR. I have an 83 DLS front brake, 82 40mm front end with WR damping rods for 10 5/8” travel. Renthal bars, split perch Magura levers. 79 125 CR tank. 77 pipe. 1980 CR engine, std. bore with Mahle piston and a lightened rod. 79/80 Ohlins for 11+” travel. This setup preserves the xlnt handling that the 77/78 CRs are known for while providing approximately 1” additional travel front and rear. Stock 77/78 CRs have 29 degree rake with 9.5 and 10 inches travel front and rear respectively. 82 rear wheel just cuz I had it. I love this bike. It steers nice and sharp and that lovely 390 pulls like a tractor with instantaneous throttle response.

So here is the second 400cc Mag case 6-speed engine I built. This one, like mine, is in a MK125 frame with Mag 250 swingarm. This belongs to my buddy Ray who brought it by my house the other day. He’s got Pro Fab triples, Ohlins shocks and one of John LeFevre’s pipes. Those are the only differences between his and mine. Beautiful bike and that engine is unbelievably quick! Picture a lightweight 250 Mag with 400cc power. It’s wicked and fun.

This is step 1 in saving rotted mag Husqvarna cases. These are 74 and 75 250 and 360 CR cases. A two-part aircraft assembly adhesive was applied to the inside of the rotted crankcase areas. This is followed by machining the cases mounted on a rotary table in the milling machine. Next step will be to apply Glyptal to seal the areas and prevent any further Mag rot. Hope you enjoy following along. Stay tuned. Peace, out.

More than just motor sickle stuff in here! I got this thing with no bridge or tailpiece mounting holes, no nut, pickups, controls etc. from my pal Marty. It came in this Gibson "chainsaw" case. Not sure of it's origin but it really plays and sounds like a dream. Thanks Marty

I've been playing with this Les Paul for a while. I really love it. The top is aging nicely and naturally. That's actual nitrocellulose clear that has turned amber in the can.

The kid is gonna ride the Mag this weekend so we got it out and got it prepped. New Twin Air filter, gear oil, carb cleanout etc. This bike has the JP Morgen-modified triple clamps, 78 250CR tank, 118 series Bing with the revised GP needle and needle jet and hard chrome slide, internal Motoplat. Runs great, turns way better than stock. Well sorted, fun to ride.

There is a 1971 Maico MC400 in the shop. It was a barn find in Lancaster, CA. It had extensive frame damage which I have been working to correct and now it is getting to the point where I can paint the frame and the rest of the black parts.
