Your pelvic floor.... and your fitness -

I'm going to guess that unless you have pelvic issues, you probably don't think too much about your pelvic floor muscles. But, if you do have issues with your pelvic floor those issues can manifest in a number of different symptoms as described in physical therapist Jenny Putt's LATEST ARTICLE. And...

3 things you MUST do to get in better shape -

Some people just prefer to be shown cool exercises or routines rather than understand the HOW or the WHY of exercise. I get it — they want something they can do and not have to think about. But here's a tip... the more you understand HOW to get fit and WHY something works or doesn't work, the more...

A client this morning working on diaphragmatic breathing and creating intra-abdominal pressure to better stabilize her spine and overcome low back pain.

Stress triggers the flight-or-fight response which leads to chest breathing, overuse of the wrong breathing muscles, and ultimately more stress on the low back muscles.

Sitting more at home doesn't help either!

It's so amazing to have the technology and use it to solve problems that would otherwise have to be solved in-person (which isn't happening right now).

If you're struggling with your low back while stuck at home, I have a free online mini-course available called Low Back Bootcamp that will help you (link in profile).

Have questions? Feel free to message me!

For the last few weeks I've been inviting my ReInvention Fitness community to join me online for a social hour and talk about fitness and just life in general.

Yesterday I decided to host a Happy Hour.

It's a great way for them to connect, not only with me, but with each other and exchange ideas.

We still need fitness while sheltering in place, but we also need to connect with other people. 😀

There are a million free workouts online now, but if you've had injuries that are set off by the wrong exercises, you're likely second guessing trying those workouts.

Maybe it's your low back and the thought of doing crunches hurts even though you haven't done one yet.

Or maybe your knees are telling you that squatting or jumping are a no-go.

Or maybe your shoulders and push ups don't mix.

It's hard enough feeling isolated during a shelter in place, but your fitness and health shouldn't suffer.

In fact, with the right program, you could actually be making progress at home.

If this sounds like where you'e currently at I would love to connect with you and see how I can help.

I help people who are tired of their aches and pains get stronger, feel younger, and achieve a level of fitness they didn't know was still possible.

Just post a comment or message me.

No strings attached! I promise!

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Things appear to be getting more serious this week regarding the efforts to contain the Coronavirus outbreak.

NBA and NCAA season cancellations, school and university shutdowns...
..and "social distancing" to reduce the risks of picking up the virus or transmitting it to others.

Naturally, those looking to eliminate time spent around large groups of people are starting to avoid the gym (ironically, no one is avoiding Costco which, where I live, has been packed all week).

And while it's understandable to avoid the gym, keep in mind that your physical fitness is important to your health and immune system (as is a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and managing stress).

We could certainly all use strong immune systems right now.

And honestly, no one knows just how long this situation will go on.

If you're not going to the gym, it's a good time to start thinking about your Fitness Plan B.

Your Plan B could be exercising outdoors, at home, or maybe still going to the gym but avoiding the group classes.

You have options.

Just don't forget that health and fitness go together.

And remember to wash your hands and don't touch your face (I'm still working on that last one). :-)

Do you need help with your Fitness Plan B? Comment or message me and let's come up with some creative solutions together.

Does exercise reduce dementia risk? -

I wrote THIS ARTICLE article back in November about how you can reduce your Alzheimers risk with healthy lifestyle choices and how that builds a cognitive reserve in your brain. One question worth asking is: HOW MUCH can a healthy lifestyle help protect your brain? At a recent presentation at Stan...

Do you have tight hips or hamstrings? -

One of the top issues related to low back pain is a lack of mobility in the hips, either due to tight hip muscles or tight hamstrings. If the hip/hamstring muscles can't elongate when you bend forward then the low back will. And that's a recipe for disaster. Disc damage, anyone?...

Are thick-soled running shoes better.... or worse? -

I love when clients and readers send me articles related to something we've talked about, and this week I have an article to share with you (thanks Lisa!). If you're into walking or running you've likely put some thought into the shoes you wear for your activity.  A few years ago, minimal shoes we...
