I don't think we talk enough about what it means to steward a place, however impermanently. It's not just land, it's the dozens of places throughout our lives that we have the opportunity to make better.

I have always borne a great burden of responsibility on my shoulders, holding myself to the highest standards morally and professionally. I failed my own tests repeatedly, but this I did right: I helped create beautiful things out of nothing over and over again.

As I prepare to give away the Wine Cubby at the end of this month, I keep returning to what an enormous opportunity it has been to be the steward of this space. What a gift it is to give it to someone new, not having to wrestle all the challenges that it took to dream it into existence, that they may have the kind of chances for success that were not possible for me. Walking away without bitterness. This is what entrepreneurship is really about: creating something, walking astride it for the time that feels right, then exiting gracefully like a whisper, having laid the foundation for someone else's future that you will never be a part of.

If you have followed Margins for a long time, you know that I almost never spoke in the media I posted over the years. But there are some videos of me working that I've stumbled upon, and in my processing of the bittersweet grief and joy that frame this chapter of my life, I thought it would be fun to share some of them.
It's such an interesting gift that technology gives us of being able to look back in present time at who we were a year, two years, many years ago--captured in live video. I find each version of the person I was in these videos, taken over a multi year span, almost entirely unrecognizable. If you asked me if I knew her, I would say I did not. But she delights me, sometimes with her confidence, sometimes with her obvious pain sitting just beneath the surface. Thanks for joining me in one of the many ways I say goodbye to Margins Megan.

The dream team packed the final installment of the Margins Wine Club a couple weeks ago. .
Please come visit us at the Wine Cubby through the end of April!

When I was making the decision to close Margins about a year and a half ago, the thing I was most worried about was losing the relationships that this experience allowed me to build. I had this idea that if I was no longer Margins Megan, but just simply Megan, all the things that were connected with Margins would disappear from my life, as if they had never been there at all. The messy thoughts of grief trapped me in this thought loop.

But now that I am on the other side of that mountain of sorrow, I see that these relationships are concrete and steady. It was never about the wine. It was about love, respect, mutual care, and the belief that the smallest things can drive beneficial change in the lives of other beings. Thank you for being part of this journey.

More Margins throwbacks. So many wonderful times! So many horrible times! It's important to not romanticize the experience--remembering it for the complex creature that it was is the best way to honor Margins. ❤️

The time has come to share the bittersweet news that the Margins journey is coming to an end. When I took this first photo during one of the hardest days when I was processing this inevitable change, I could not have imagined that I would eventually reach the place of calm resolve that I'm in now.

No matter how long you have been part of the Margins community, I am eternally grateful for your support of my little dream. As a 25-year-old, I founded Margins with a goal to create a supportive and respectful wine work culture and increase organic vineyard acreage in CA along the way. I lived that mission with every fiber of my being for the last decade, and I enter the next phase of my life proud of what I accomplished.

Operating Margins was full of amazing opportunities, especially the relationships I was able to build with incredible people all over the country. I am so very appreciative of the life I got to lead. I especially want to thank the wonderful employees and interns who worked with me over the last five years. Margins would not be what it is without you.

Margins Wine Cubby in its current iteration as our tasting room will be open through the end of April. We hope to see you before we say farewell.

If you would like to reach out to me privately, I would absolutely love to hear from you!

We're coming up on 10 YEARS OF MARGINS!! To commemorate the occasion, I will be doing a bunch of posts with some fun throwback photos. Looking back over the years, I can't believe how young I was when I started this project (25!), and how much I've grown in the years since.
The reality of the highs, lows, fun, and relative misery are captured throughout the photos, and I'm looking forward to sharing them. Kicking it off with these pics from the photo vault of Mr. James .

Film by from the vault of experience.
How do you quantify uncountable hours spent dreaming/thinking/doing while the light slowly changes, the seasons slowly turn? How can you sum up your life's work in a morsel that you can place in your mouth in the form of a story to share?
