I’ve watched incredible friendships, business partnerships, communities, and relationships begin because someone took thirty seconds to be socially generous. It’s a quality I notice constantly in the people who seem to have the richest lives. Because they’re helping create the room.

Invite the person standing alone into the conversation.

Host the dinner.

Meet Angelika 🧡 One of the things I love most about building Modern Love Club is finding people who still believe love is sacred. Something that cannot be reduced to swipe psychology and dopamine loops, but something deeply human worth protecting.

So when Angelika says she believes love is worth fighting for… she means it.

Angelika grew up around matchmaking. Literally. Her mother hosted gatherings for professional Christian singles to meet, and her own parents’ love story blossomed through the community she created.

There’s something refreshingly old world about the way she thinks about relationships. Anthropological. Romantic. Grounded in the belief that we are actually meant to rely on one another. That we are wired to want to love and be loved. That joy is something meant to be experienced together.

Which feels especially radical right now. In an era of swiping, AI, and people treating each other like infinitely replaceable options, Angelika keeps returning to a much simpler question:

What happens when people actually gather again?

When they slow down long enough to truly see each other?

When connection is treated as something sacred instead of consumable?

One of the strangest things about modern dating is that people have become incredibly skilled at describing what they want… while often remaining disconnected from what actually creates connection.

A real match is not just shared interests. Or mutual attraction. Or texting chemistry.

According to Alexa and relational science, it is compatibility, chemistry, and timing. This includes emotional readiness, nervous system responses, life stage, and attachment patterns.

A thousand tiny things are happening simultaneously beneath the surface.

Which is why matchmaking still fascinates us.

Because people are not equations.

And love is rarely as rational as people want it to be.

The truth is, I never viewed this work as simply “setting people up.” It has always felt closer to social anthropology mixed with emotional storytelling and a tiny bit of performance art.

This quote pushes against one of the more dangerous ideas romantic culture ever sold us: that love is the thing that finally makes your life valid.

As though your art, your friendships, your curiosities, your grief, your strange little obsessions, your becoming… are somehow secondary to whether or not someone has chosen you.

But if you really pay attention to people who are magnetic in love, it’s rarely because romance is the only thing animating them. They are animated by life itself.

They have stories, and passions, and contradictions, work that matters to them... and so much more.

And ironically, that aliveness is often what makes them compelling partners in the first place.

Of course love matters deeply. I’ve built my life around it. I’ve watched it heal people.

But I think relationships are at their best when they become a place where life expands.
