If you've visited us lately, you've likely seen our demonstration cover crop block.

This is meant to show you all of the different cover crop methods we employ on our vineyard: native cover crop, pollinator flowers, nitrogen-fixing legumes, and erosion protection barley all serve different purposes in farming.

The fan favorite is the pollinator-friendly cover crop we use every ten rows or so. This includes a mix of California poppies, bachelor buttons, vetch, clover, and more, which help attract and provide a habitat for beneficial insects. Plus, it's really pretty!

If you haven't seen it yet, come on out to The Gatehouse, enjoy a glass of wine, and ask your host all about it.

Which Chardonnay are you choosing?

2022 Bien Nacido Estate Chardonnay: Classically Bien Nacido, with aromas of straw and chamomile interspersed with wet stone and lemon peel. Beautiful mineral notes balance out fresh fruit and tropical flowers on the palate. This wine has the characteristically firm structure of the 2022 vintage combined with the richness and viscosity that ties it all together. We expect this Chardonnay will age gracefully for at least six to eight years.

2022 Solomon Hills Chardonnay: Hailing from the deep sandy soils of the Solomon Hills Vineyard, this wine revels in its proximity to Pacific Ocean. White peaches mingle with lemon zest, caramel, and sea spray on the nose. On the palate this Chardonnay offers a precise mineral quality with balanced acidity and hints of toasty oak. Long sur lie aging means this wine will hit its peak in 5 to 10 years.

2022 Belle of the Ball Chardonnay: Sourced exclusively from 22-year-old vines planted at the top of the hill where the sandy soils start to give way to rock, this wine is truly a unique expression of Chardonnay from the Westernmost
vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. Brioche, lemon bar, and toasty
oak present beautifully on the nose. This wine possesses an
exuberant palate while maintaining elegance and balance. Expect
this wine to age well for at least ten years and hopefully more. *MEMBER EXCLUSIVE*
