Our friends at Alley 6 Craft Distillery generously gave us a whiskey barrel they used to age their incredible Black Barley Single Malt!

I'll be using it to make a Dwarven beer in the future. It'll have to be a long wait because I want to do it right. It's going to be a labor of Love. I'm excited for the day I finally crack this open to share with all the Two Crows members!

The strawberry-habanero turned out way more RED than I expected 🀯
The pectin from the strawberries gave me a lot of trouble. Turned an afternoon of work into a whole day event. The good news is even in it's early stage, it's DELICIOUS πŸ“

Not directly mead related (besides the anthropologist's name, LoL), but this encapsulates the very essence I hope to emulate with the meadry and the community we create around it. We're all in this together πŸ’•

"️️At a conference, a college student asked anthropologist Margaret Mead, what she considered to be the oldest sign of civilization in a culture.

The student expected Mead to talk about spears, clay pots or grinding stones. But no, Mead responded that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur that had been broken and then healed.

Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break a leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, go to the river for a drink or for food. You are easy prey to predators and plunderers. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.

A broken and healed femur is evidence that someone took the job of staying with who broke it, tightened the wound, carried it to safety, and helped recover. Mead said helping someone in need is where the civilization of our species begins."

MEDIC!!

I won't post the picture here but a 6.5 gallon glass carboy exploded in my hands and cut my arms and wrist pretty good. Luckily not bad enough to go to the ER but still.

Make sure you get quality Italian made for your glass carboys. Or better yet, if you can afford it, just start with stainless steel from the beginning.

I'll have to come up with a new plan because now I have 6.5gal of mead waiting to be transferred and only 5gal carboys remaining. Odin as my witness we will win the day πŸ’ͺ
