Good afternoon Everyone,
I hope you all are enjoying the start of a great summer. Please take a few minutes to read the following information.
Please note, the 100%Guadalupe monthly meeting will reconvene August 25th. We will not hold our monthly meeting in May, June or July.
Five years ago LCY&FC was established to fill gaps in community services. We began by partnering with other entities to promote su***de prevention and job training. We initiated successful programming with Workforce Solutions for CDL training and Career Readiness certification, and thankfully state programming such as 988 has become readily available.
Shortly after our 1st year, our mission expanded to include the 100% NM Initiative (100nm.org) and 10 vital services for surviving and thriving. We continue to partner to bring services to our community and in some cases we build necessary programming.
In conjunction with Moriarty, Edgewood and Santa Fe Lions Club members and SRCS/Community Schools we recently helped facilitate the free Villa Therese medical and eye exam clinic. The need was significant. A return visit from the generous Villa Therese team is being planned. Please see the attached impact report.
Back by popular demand, June 2 we will facilitate another 5 week session (2days/week) of Abriendos Puertas/Opening Doors. A toolbox of support for parents, grandparents, and care givers of children 0-5 yrs. Please see the attached flyer.
We are working with Alcoholic Anonymous District 1 to organize a regular Santa Rosa AA meeting. Details will be available soon.
The 100% Food Security Action Team has assessed, planned and is now implementing the first phase of increasing food access in Guadalupe County. The Azure food drop location was established and we received our first order. There is more to come as we continue implementation and continuous evaluation of the food program and community needs.
The 100% NM Directory is available on line to provide information for vital services without cost barriers. https://directory.100nm.org/
LCY&FC is planning a youth mentoring program to follow up with high school graduates and check in with them for any needed assistance or services.
Much recent focus for LCY&FC has been on Housing.
We have participated in various Housing programs providing technical support and funding for Strategic Planning, Feasibility and Pre-development. There will be a four part series offered through the Office of Housing and DWS for local electives, this is a great opportunity for leaders to learn about the housing process and technical support for Housing initiatives such as workforce housing. I will share application info when it becomes available.
The Bernalillo County Management and 100% Bernalillo convened a Housing summit on 5/14,15 to develop a state wide housing plan to address Homelessness and Affordable Housing Your input to the questionnaire was much appreciated. The summit was attended by various community leaders throughout NM (Taos, Farmington, Santa Fe, Alamogordo, Gallup). This plan will incorporate our work during the summit and when complete it will be presented to the new legislature and governor.
Save the Date July 23, LCY&FC, EPCOG, NEEDO and GCDC are collaborating to host a rural specific Housing Summit. This summit will provide basics on Housing for rural communities - opportunities and challenges. It will also address the Affordable Housing Plan and the importance of this critical reference. There will be attendees and leaders from other communities to share how they are addressing their rural housing challenges.
LCY&FC is also working to address the health and safety issues at the low income HUD subsidized apartments. We have partnered with a team of advocates in order to educate tenants on their rights for safe and healthy living conditions. Everyone deserves a safe place to live.
LCY&FC is seeking Behavioral Health Reform & Investment Act / SB3 funding along with other sources to address the unhoused, justice involved individuals in our community who need advocacy and basic services. This project will receive Homegrown Housing technical service feasibility funding to ensure the right housing model is established. Everyone deserves a safe place to live. We must consider the cost of untreated mental illness on our streets.
In the past few months I’ve attended various summits, conferences and workshops. I was inspired by the collaborative and inclusive environment created by the attendees and leaders of these gatherings. My hope is that our community can realize the importance of collaboration, inclusion and working together for a thriving Guadalupe.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Best,
Lisa G. Brassell
