Tomorrow is our last day for the Biomedical Research Scholars program! Hamilton College students have been working hard preparing their talks for tomorrow!

It’s the final week of the Biomedical Research Scholars Program at Trudeau Institute.

Before presentations begin, we’re highlighting the students who spent this spring semester in immersive immunology research in Dr. Deb Brown’s lab.

Matthew is a junior at Hamilton College preparing for a career in medicine. At Trudeau this semester, he gained hands-on experience in a biomedical research environment as part of the program, building on prior research experience studying immune responses in vulvodynia at Hamilton.

Born in Hawaii and raised in Mongolia, he brings a broad perspective to his work and is continuing to explore his path toward a career in pathology.

We look forward to his presentation later this week.

It’s the final week of the Biomedical Research Scholars Program at Trudeau Institute.

Before presentations begin, we’re highlighting the students who spent this spring semester in immersive immunology research in Dr. Deb Brown’s lab.

Rejoice is pursuing an MD/PhD at Hamilton College focused on how genetic variation in cardio-obstetrics shapes maternal cardiovascular health outcomes. Her interests in immunology and translational research brought her to Trudeau this semester.

Originally from Zimbabwe, she brings a global perspective to her work and is building a foundation for a career in medicine and research.

We look forward to her presentation later this week.

This is what we’ve been saying for awhile. T cells are an important correlate of protection and should be targeted by vaccines!

Nature Reviews Immunology: Neutralizing antibodies are widely viewed as the frontline of antiviral defence. Yet emerging evidence reveals that T cells can terminate infection before it is detectable by routine clinical assays, independently of antibodies. This Comment article argues that recognizing this capacity reframes correlates of protection and calls for vaccines that harness T cells as early, decisive defenders.

Networking, experiments and learning how to communicate our science!

Recently, Trudeau Institute hosted Dr. Elena Tonc, Assistant Professor at Hamilton College, for a seminar on emerging links between the immune system, inflammation, and chronic pain.

Opportunities like this connect our Biomedical Research Scholars with scientists beyond the Institute and offer a broader view of how biomedical research spans disciplines.

We are proud to welcome the return of the Northeast Regional World TB Day Conference to the Trudeau Institute, where it first began in 2009.

Next week’s gathering brings together scientists, researchers, and public health leaders from across the region, united by a shared focus on tuberculosis research and prevention.

World TB Day (March 24) is a global reminder that TB remains the leading infectious disease killer worldwide, responsible for ~1 to 2 million deaths each year. Continued research and collaboration are essential to ending it.

Hosting this conference in Saranac Lake connects that global effort to a place deeply rooted in the history of TB research, while highlighting the work being done today.
