Walnut Grove Excavating

Walnut Grove Excavating Customer focused, Integrity Driven Walnut Grove Excavating, LLC owned and operated by Travis Gemmell. My number one goal will be your complete satisfaction.

I am focused on all sizes of residential projects and small commercial projects. Walnut Grove Excavating, LLC is the culmination of a life long dream of owning my own business. It all began on the ground floor of a major corporation and through hard work and determination I was able to climb my way up the corporate ladder. However the higher I climbed the less I was able to do what I really love,

which is work with customers each and every day! . With the loving support of my family we bought an old farmhouse in the Lowell/Saranac area with the intentions of turning it into a hobby farm and making it our forever home. As it came time to clear a place for the barn, we struggled to find an excavating company that was willing to take on smaller projects or to fit us into their schedule. I knew from numerous conversations, I was not alone, that there are many other people in my position that are having issues finding someone that can and will do the "smaller jobs" This is where my dream and business plan came to fruition. With my past experience of working on excavating projects for neighbors, friends and my family, I decided to start Walnut Grove Excavating in order to help people get their excavating projects completed on time as defined.

Nobody talks about the cardio that comes with a blue-collar job. We don’t need a treadmill—we have deadlines.

There’s something satisfying about hauling the last load off a project and seeing everything come together. This house dig is officially complete!

From start to finish, we were able to handle every step of the process — stripping the property, digging the basement, backfilling, installing the sewer line, putting in the driveway, adding downspout drain lines, finish grading, spreading topsoil, and hydroseeding.

We take pride in being able to help homeowners and builders through every phase of a project and seeing it through from the ground up.

If you’re building a new home or need excavation, site prep, drainage, grading, sewer work, or driveway installation, reach out to us — we’d love the opportunity to help bring your project to life!

The locator came in handy again.

This could have easily turned into a damaged gas line if we had just taken someone’s word for it. The gas company had marked their lines, but this was a homeowner-installed gas line for the pool, which typically doesn’t get marked through Miss Dig. It was supposed to be well out of the way of our excavation, but ended up being right on the edge of the dig area.

Instead of risking it, we took the time to hand dig and locate the line before starting on the footings. A little extra caution goes a long way when you’re digging around utilities.

Another project moving right along! The new foundation dig is complete and ready for concrete. We were also able to get the driveway installed and prepped for the pump truck and concrete crew coming next week. We worked hard to keep everything moving smoothly and make sure the site is ready for the next phase. Excited to see this one start coming together!

Another project moving right along!

The driveway is cut in and ready for asphalt millings today. We have everything prepped and ready for the next step to start bringing this project together.

Yesterday, I was able to get both additions dug in and ready to go — unfortunately, I forgot to grab pictures while we were moving! Sometimes the work gets rolling and the photos get missed.

Looking forward to seeing this one continue to come together!

This crew put in some serious work on this regrade and drainage project! 💪

The biggest issue was that the yard grade was actually higher than the grade at the home, causing water to run back toward the house instead of away from it.

To correct the problem, we first removed the existing topsoil and hauled away spoils to establish the proper grade. From there, we installed a large French drain through the center of the yard to capture water and improve drainage. We also added outlet piping to help move excess water away when water levels rise too much.

To further improve drainage, we installed downspout drains on all of the gutters to carry roof water away from the home and keep extra water out of the yard.

Once everything was complete, the team Harley raked and finish-raked the yard to get it ready for the next phase. Up next: new sprinklers, followed by hydroseed from Brock to bring this yard back to life!

When the driver tries joking about the pool but I am the one that is always joking. Who’s telling the truth?

People ask why I don’t post more POV videos. Anyone that is an owner and in the field you know the feeling. I answer then forget to turn it back on 🤣

Anyone else have a dog that just can’t handle 14 hour days? She was standing up against me falling asleep. I should mention she naps around 14 times a day so I guess she should be tired.
