With the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season fast approaching, it's crucial to break free from traditional habits. Last year's storms, Hurricanes Ian and Nicole, demonstrated that obsessing over the storm's cone and wind speeds leaves us vulnerable. Instead, let's focus on the actual risks, such as storm surge warnings, rainfall flooding, and tornadoes. These hazards proved more destructive than expected, causing significant damage, fatalities, and power outages. So, this season, let's shift our attention to watches and warnings, which provide critical information to protect ourselves and our communities. Stay informed and prepared for the unexpected!
