I seldom enter into the political arena anymore but this warrants a discussion because it was discussed on and a few other outlets a lot today. In my opinion, certain government officials (elected & appointed) are stifling progress in America because they don't understand the shift happening in our country. The people calling for regulations on companies like & are the same ones who think that manufacturing jobs in the Midwest & other rural American geographies were lost due to cheaper off-shored labor in places like China, Mexico & India & not because of our shift as a nation away from an Industrial economy to a service & information economy.
The net number of jobs didn't leave (actually increased), they simply transformed & WE (both companies & our nation) didn't educate our people for the shift, so the jobs moved elsewhere in the country to support the growth in those markets - to industries like information technology & companies like Facebook, Amazon & Google; as opposed to manufacturers of goods.
So, these same representatives (of the people) who didn't see & won't acknowledge the shift in our economy, are the same ones who can't see (& won't take the time to understand) the shift in social communication & interaction. The answer isn't more regulation - the answer is that they need to let go of "fear of the unknown" & let these new companies & new businesses lead & care for content within the markets they operate - free markets have a way regulating themselves.
Stephen Bannon, President Trump’s chief strategist, has been pushing for regulating internet companies like Facebook and Google as public utilities, according to a report in
