So many emotions emerge as I survey the damage to our community. So many have lost so much and as a community we’re forever changed. My heart hurts.

I was born in Sarasota - grew up on Longboat. My Grandparents moved their family here in the ‘60s - LBK was their paradise.

One month ago I could drive past landmark after landmark - from Anna Maria - to the south end of LBK or St Armand’s - casually reminiscing about days gone by on my way to dinner (as I’m known to do 😬).

It suddenly hit me as Milton approached - It will never be the same. Ever.

Of course we will rebuild - because we’re like that - but much of the landscape of the community of my youth, has changed forever, existing now only in my memory.

However, now is a good time to remember that ENERGY cannot be created or destroyed (the First Law of Thermodynamics)

Our “community” is driven by the ENERGY of every human spirit. It’s not just the buildings or the palms or the views that make us a community (though these represent energy as well). The thing which holds the power to define our future is US. WE are the collective energy - the immutable “community” of the Suncoast.

Yes. We will rebuild. Because we cannot be destroyed. Stay strong, Suncoast.
