š **Going away for an extended period? Hereās something many homeowners donāt think about.**
Today we completed a disinfecting and cleaning job after rodents entered a home while the homeowner was away. Fortunately, a neighbor discovered the problem before it became even worse, but as you can see from the before and after photos, there was still quite a bit of cleanup to do!
One important thing to remember when a home sits vacant is **water in your plumbing traps.** Over time, water in toilets, sinks, showers, tubs and other drains can evaporate. That water creates an important barrier between your home and the sewer/plumbing system.
Before leaving a home vacant for an extended period:
⢠Make sure toilets and plumbing traps have water in them
⢠Have someone periodically check the home
⢠Run water in sinks, showers and tubs during those visits
⢠Donāt forget drains that aren't used very often
In this case, the problem was caught early. Had the rodents remained inside longer, the amount of contamination and damage could have been significantly worse.
A little prevention, and having someone regularly check on a vacant home, can make a BIG difference!
