Part of farming sustainably is relying and encouraging local wildlife to help manage pests! Here are a few of our favorites here at Cooper-Garrod:

1. Bluebirds hunt insects that are detrimental to the vineyards
2. Bobcats hunt gophers and ground squirrels
3. Great Horned owls also do excellent small rodent work
4. Everyone’s favorite, our barn cat 🐈‍⬛ Tux.
5. Our horses provide manure which we compost to put back into the vineyards!

Cheers to the Artemis II splash down! We have been very excited to follow this mission, and are thrilled that they have successfully returned to Earth! While we celebrate these astronauts and the team behind them, we also want to take a moment to remember our founding winemaker, George Cooper, who was a Test Pilot for NASA out of Moffett Field’s Ames Research Center for 30 years. While George himself was not an astronaut, the research he did as a test pilot paved the way for the modern day space program. Today, we name our blends after different airplanes George flew, and call them the Test Pilot series.

And tonight we are going to open one of those Test Pilot bottles, the 2018 F6F Hellcat, and give a hearty toast to the current astronauts - and to those who paved the way!
