Hey everyone, at Pro First, we often see issues with icemakers that could have been easily avoided with regular maintenance. That's why we wanted to take a moment to encourage all of our clients to clean their icemakers on a regular basis.

Over time, ice can accumulate and cause your icemaker to produce ice with a strange taste or odor. This can also cause your icemaker to work less efficiently and even lead to mechanical problems down the line. By taking just a few minutes to clean your icemaker, you can ensure that it's working at its best and producing high-quality ice for you and your family.

Here are a few simple steps you can take to clean your icemaker:

Turn off the icemaker and unplug the appliance

Remove the ice bucket and any other removable parts

Clean the interior of the icemaker with warm soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth

Clean the water inlet valve, water supply tube, and ice mold

Reassemble the icemaker and turn it back on

Regular maintenance can go a long way in extending the life of your appliance and ensuring that it's functioning at its best. And if you do run into any issues with your icemaker or any other appliance, don't hesitate to give us a call. We're here to help!

In Florida, hurricanes can do a lot of damage. Here are a few things that you can do to protect your appliances.
Take photos of your appliances, so that it’s easy for you to submit claims to your homeowner’s insurance. Consider taking photos of any major appliances such as the air conditioning unit, washer, dryer, fridge, water heater and microwave. Make sure to take pictures of the manufacturer label with the model and serial numbers, and if you have the original receipt, keep it with the photos that you are taking. It’s best to unplug your electric appliances to protect them from any power surges during a hurricane., including washers, dryers, and microwaves. Elevate appliance that will rust or corrode: If you have portable appliances such as TVs, microwaves, or toasters, you want to move these appliances to a place where they are going to be several feet off the ground in case your home does flood. If you have a two-story home, your appliances are safer on the second floor.

Hurricane Season is Here: Is Your Refrigerator Ready?
Before the Power Goes Out:
Use appliance thermometers in your refrigerator and freezer to determine if food is safe during power outages. Refrigerator temp. should be 40° F or lower. The freezer should be 0° F or lower. Freeze refrigerated items such as fresh meat, and poultry. This helps keep them at a safe temperature longer. Freeze containers of water for ice to help keep food cold in freezer, refrigerator, or coolers in case of power outage. You can also use melted ice for drinking water. Have coolers on hand to keep the refrigerator food cold in case the power is out for more than 4 hours.
If the Power Goes Out:
Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. A refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours if you keep the door closed. A full freezer will keep its temperature for about 48 hours (24 hours if half-full).

AVOID OVERLOADS
You may think you're saving money, water or energy by shoving more clothes into your washer and dryer. But overloading any unit can cause damage to the motor, belt or other moving parts. Some of the repairs could be costly.

If you keep your refrigerator door gaskets clean, they'll seal properly and last longer. But if you let food build up on the door gasket, they'll glue the gasket to the frame. Pulling harder on a stuck door can tear the gasket, and that'll cost you $100 or more to fix. Plus, if the door doesn't seal properly, the fridge has to run longer, and that will increase your electric bill. Clean the door gaskets with warm water and a sponge or cloth. Don't use detergents, they could damage the gasket.
